Double Pump 18 years 10 months ago #7473

Hi, im a bit new to the whole playboating scene., before i was a humble river runner. I've heard quite a few mention the double pump, and i was wondering how to do it without ending up capsizing. Any links to videos or pics or even advice would be helpful. Thanks, GS

well if your a beginer at that technique it doesnt hurt to capsize if you can roll infact you realy should capsize doing that you need to find the point on your point where you can cut into the water like a knife if you do it 2 much you fall in not enough and you slap the water. at first you might think this stroke requires alot of strengh but it doesnt if you get it right i cant a find a like that shows you (maybe in not trying hard enough) ill try and talk you through as best i CAN

1)get some forward momentom

2)edge to one side (finding the right point on your boat is essential)

3)pull a strong foward stroke lifting your front

4)then initiate a back wards stroke slamming your front down

5) keep your weight on your toes

this shoudl get you vertical if not then my advice is wrong or your not finding the right point on your boat idealy you shouldnt be fighting the water when you do tbis stroke once you get vertical you can then turn it into cartwheels but i suggest you practice that first ;-) hope i helped you

Im still learning but so far ive had the most progess getting up a bit of speed, then lifting the front and smashing the front down, the problem im having is with the amount of edge to put on, any ideas?

So really what you do is the beginnings of a roll, but then do a reverse sweep across the bows of your boat which will go underwater. Is that a bow stall in itself though?

I don't want to start a new post - but I am working on my double pump and bow stall. I am in a LL Vision 56 bigfoot. I am 6' 180 lbs and I have the seat as far back as it can go to accomodate my feet. When I try to double pump I just can't get my weight up and over the bow quick enough. Do you think it has to do with me being a bit too far back in the boat or is it just beginners blues (I'm new to playboating)?

try moving your seat around then paddling for a bit untill you find whats best for you, but personnally i like to have it as close to the centre as possible

Your missing somthing very important, you will only manage a double pump if you are looking where you want you boat to go, looking to the sky on the forward stroke then look right round the other way on the reverse stroke to get the bow under. This is rotating you body and in turn rotating your boat. good luck

Re:Double Pump 18 years 7 months ago #9207

The key point to getting into a bow stall is that it is not a reverse sweep that gets you up. After your initial sweep stroke to get the bow up you plant the paddle ontop of the water, so the whole paddle is parallel to the surface of the water. you then push on it slightly whilst unwinding your body. if you watch the video you'll understand what I mean.

Ehhh.. not really. Helped me get the double pump was leaning forward. i found that i would throw my weight back on the first sweep, then not bring it forward fast enough. That was my problem anyway, really comitting to the transition and edgign as much as possible will probalbly help tooo. Good luck.

Okay so here is what you will need. Grab some lube, papaer towels, and a good magazine.

To doubble pump you have to have the right angle, lead with your head, and you gotta put her on edge and just commit to it, Don't be afraid to capsize, it happens when you blow your seal, you may get wet, just roll with it. Concentrate, relax, and go BIG or go home!
