Throwing Blunts 18 years 11 months ago #7959

Alright. So I've gotten pretty comfy with my flat spinning abilities, and it looks like the next one on the list is the blunt. I've gone out there and tried to do a couple and I'm not getting annnnything. I'm just falling right off the waves. Does anyone have any specific tips or pointers to help coax the bow up into the air? or any other part of the move?

Thanks

Well, I would first learn to cartwheel. At least be able to slice 3 ends in flatwater. I learned to loop before blunting. It's a hard trick to explain as it greatly depends on the boat you use. Check out the localpaddler.com explanation. Look under techniques or somehing. They give a good explanation and pics and movie.

A man named Chris J has a great page that explains blunts, and most other paddling issues in detail. Check it out, I've found it fairly insightful, and well written.

Hope it helps

Best thing to do is to find a big and fast wave with some nice foam on top of. I have found air blunts easier to learn than normal blunts. When you get a good bounce you don't need to rely that much to your own strength and initiation to get the move going. When you get the air blunts going in big wave you just need to be more agressive with you edge transition and weight transition to make blunts in a small wave where you can't get air.

Two clips of EJ explaining the blunt. This is how I learned, the man's a legend. Hope he doesn't mind the link! Very informative.
