Has anyone tried altering their boats with heat?
Any boats at all? Anyone heard of it - know of information on it?
I'm considering cutting down and squashing out my Ace 4.7 or maybe modifying a G-force to bring it up to better specs for air moves.
Any tips, suggestions, knowledge, advice?

Sincerely,
Too poor to buy a new boat

:stop: to add volume to your gforce why not buy some mini cell foam and shape a piece to fit on the back deck or whereever then sand down to desired volume! cutting up a boat seems a bit drastic it could go either way you could end up with a nicer boat or worse a big colinder for your pasta!

Aware of what a large f''' up I could cause. I really want to CUT it down though(Ace). I have a friend who is excellent with a blow torch - I think we can meld it back together.

ok there was a film of some guys who reshaped a broken inazone into the outa zone

looked awsome but after 30 mins in the surf the plastic broke at the new seams/ welds as the heat made the plastic weaker it looked like a seive when all the water was pouring out. try and find it and have a look for yourself. if your boat is in good nick then keep it that way or sell it to get money towards new one or make a plug out of foam and make a glass boat to your spec!

Get a Jackson Kayak from the Star-Series if you want a great playboat - tinkering around with your boat sounds like fun, but I doubt you will get a durable result.

Check also Karl Gessleins adventures in this area: www.ne-ww.com/karl_modify_boats.htm

If you look at what Peik Borud of Norway did (www.ne-ww.com/peik.htm) you can see where the guys with the outazone went wrong: they tried to glue the ends together whereas they should have wrapped the bottom over the top. That way they would have had a lot more area to stick together and it would a lot sturdier.

Just some 2 cents from someone who has repaired composite boats way too much ;-)

Cheers,

Michiel

I have a LL BIg Wheel that I use for play boating. The room in the bow for my feet reallysucked and hurt like hell.
So, I applied the heat gun and some force from the inside. The bow is stll too pointy for my liking but I can paddle for a while longer without the numb feet and it did not hurt the look.
Just be carefull.
Do it on a spare boat so you don't ruin your prefered boat!

I know that my friend cracked his ace right under the cockpit combing where the seat brace interfaces with the boat. He has tried to heat weld to boat many times and it is only a short term fix. It has always reopened after a few paddling days. If you are going to modify your boat with heat be very careful and realize this will void your warranty so I something elso goes wrong with the boat (even something completely unrelated to the heated spot) remember they wont warranty a modified boat.

another problem you will have is that wavesport boats are made out of crosslink so they are tougher to break but if they do they are very hard to repair so you may find it hard to stick it back together once you have cut it up! You could also try squashing it
