Size of paddler For Diesel 65 18 years 9 months ago #8328

Choosing boat to use while in Costa Rica. Will be doing a variety of creeks and rivers. Must choose only one boat. Among the options is a Diesel 65 and a Diesel 75.

I am 6'1", 175 pounds and size 12 feet. I have never paddled either, but hear it is a good "all around boat". Will I be comfortable in a 65. I dont't like to feel I am swimming arount in a cockpit.

Look forward to any input.

Thanks

Yeah the 65 will be the right weight range for you. The 75 starts at 140 lbs.

Im 160 pounds, 5,10, and size 9.5 feet. I love the diesel for big water and not so sketchy creeking, it just dosent seem to have enough volume in the stern for the really hairy stuff if you ask me.

I would say take the 75. I weigh 120 and have paddled the diesel65 on a variety of creeks. I know a world class paddler who weighs only 145 and paddles the diesel75.

I'm 6'3'', 18olbs, size 12 feet, I owned a Diesel 65 and fit in it, bt just barely. The 75 is probably a better idea for proper creeking, regardless of paddler size (unless very small) because of the higher volume.

BUT THE DIESEL 75 IS HUMUNGUS, not only do you look silly in your huge boat but how are you gunna take it through small places, tight spaces,

just my 50p

The dude's 6'1'' and wighs 175, he's not a little guy, so the 75 shouldn't look [i:8be78478a0]too[/i:8be78478a0] big for him. I dunno about problems with tight spaces either, it's only 6 inches longer and a half inch wider. However, it is big on the inside, so the fit may not be as snug on the paddler. Try both out on a river before you leave if possible, I'd say if you're comfortable in the bigger boat, take it, it'll resurface quicker after drops and punch holes better than the smaller one.
