Palm Gear 18 years 8 months ago #8518

I was wondering if anyone out there has had much experience with Palm gear. I have heard some good things and it looks pretty sweet on their site but I haven't got to see any of it first hand.

Their newer stuff is really good. In particular the Spray decks.

I've been using Palm stuff for over 10 years now (including spraydecks, drytops, paddle jackets, PFDs) and I think it is pretty decent stuff for a pretty decent price. Sure, there is probably better but then again, it is sturdy, relatively cheap, good quality.

My drytop is a Palm I bought on sale for about 90 euro's in 1998. I got a new neck seal with it (as the original one had a few small holes in it) for free too. Anyway, I fixed the holes (using my bike tire repair kit, it's the same rubber) and it lasted until last year (2005). Only then did I put on the new latex neck seal and the dry top is still going strong. Granted, I only use it in the winter but it is used pretty much and mostly in salt water (surfing). A good rinse after use does prolong the lifespan of your gear though, even if you're paddling rivers.

I have never had a problem with palm kit, except their tamar paddle. Palm do have an excellent customer service for faults etc.

I've got 3 Palm dry tops, 2 of their spray decks, pogies and a throw bag. Not a days hassle. I'm very happy with what I have. Durable for sure :notworthy:

So it seems like everyone likes the stuff. How about a Northa American retailer. Preferrably closer to BC. Are there any out there who have had success selling the stuff or has it been a hard sell in our market.

Thanks for all the info. I doesn't look like my store will go with them because warranty issues have to get shipped across an ocean. I know it may not happen often but if it does shipping will be a b*&$#@.:frustrated:

I like their gear, I now have a fair bit of it and so do my paddling friends, I find it to be of a high quality and comfortable. I would certainly recommend it.

I've had great luck with Palm Gear; One Stikine drysuit and one short sleeve dry top. Both top notch. I've bought several other name brands but the Palm has been the most reliable and rugged... The North American distributor is MTI, located on the east coast of USA. I had a minor issue with the drysuit and they took great care of me. Highly recommended!
