It costs around hundred dollars a day just to rent a car... a small one...

well thats out of my price range. i:roflol: looks like a good trip still though. Curious why not do it somewhere cheap like Brazil you can eat a silver service meal in the most expensive restaurant in sao paulo for 3 GBP Does chile have something special?

Well, even in a cheaper place like Equador, trips run for about the same amount. I guess what it comes down to is that everybody needs to make a profit, and eventhough meals are cheap in a location you still need to pay your guides sufficiently. etc etc...

I guess what makes Chile so special is that there are so many rivers you can run, that are fairly easy to access, and they are all different. Big water, waterfalls, techincal creeks, playboating, all within a small distance. And it is a very safe country to travel as well, with friendly people that for the most part will not try and make your day hard... :D
