Bow stall 18 years 7 months ago #9358

I have been trying and trying and trying for some time now!!

I can get a nice pump going and then push the bow down and stick it for a split second. Then just fall over or rock back.
I had someone tell me that when I go to pry that I should be leaning out farther then what I have been doing. That helped!!
The big question is “should I feel as if I am standing in my kayak?” when on a stall. I don’t feel Im falling out or anything. I just feel like im standing up.
When I get in that position I can hold it for a few seconds but I don’t want to be doing it wrong just to feel like I might have it…..sounds funny. You might get what im saying!

So do I get on the bow with the feeling that im standing then get my head in the water all in one motion then figure out how to keep it there……….

Okay so the short answer is that no, you should not feel like your standing in your boat. When your attempting to hold a stall, imagine that the nose of your boat and each blade are the legs of a tripod. So to make your tripod nice and stable you need to lower the center of gravity as much as possible. To do this get your head right down near the water and keep your blades out in front of you. If the nose of your boat starts to float away from you, use your knees and stomach muscles to pull the nose back towards you. You can also use your blades to make small subtle corrections, but try and keep them gentle - it can be very easy to overcompensate. Finally it can be helpful to remember that leaning forward makes the boat flatten out and leaning back will bring the boat more vertical.

Hope this helps :)
