I recently purchased my first cagdeck (drytop/deck in one). And i can't believe the difference it makes to my playboating. Its not as tight around the waist as the separate deck and tops. This has allowed me a much wider range of motion, making my loops much bigger and all other vertical moves a lot more fluid and controlled.

Does anyone else feel the same or has my paddling suddenly become a whole lot better? :D

Good lines and big air

I like the idea of the 'cagdecks' but they're not always safe.

There has been occasions where people haven't been able to get thier spraydecks off under water due to tree branches or rocks that they've sutmbled over whilst upside down.

In that respect they're not so good if you're trapped and need to slip out through your spray deck.. because you can't!

I see them more as a touring / sea kayaking thing personally. I wouldn't use one on white water or playboating myself.

Well each to their own, i say.
When i creek i use separate items for the reasons you say. But for playboating that is rarely ever a problem and makes a world of difference to my performance, not to mention how much drier i stay.

I've got a few cagdecks (different decksizes) but they have regular paddle shorties mounted to the decks. As far as I can see the decks are identical to the ones they sell separately (I have D2 equipment, a local Dutch brand). Perhaps your cagdeck was designed to diferent specs compared to their regular decks? What brand do you have?

As winter is getting nearer and nearer I am looking for ways to stay dry & warm :D

I really like using them for playboating. I have some of the PeakUK cagdecks. You stay way drier and the waist is not as tight as two / three layers of neoprene.

I also don't wear one creeking for the dangers mentioned, but am more than happy to wear one on big water where I'm paddling my playboat.

It also makes it kinda hard to forget your deck which is a nice side effect.
