Drytop help 18 years 7 months ago #9475

I just blew out the neck gasket on my drytop this afternoon and was wondering what the best way to replace it would be. I was thinking that I would try to aquaseal it back together and then back it up with duck tape. would this work, or do I need to buy a new gasket? Thanks!

The best bet is to buy a new gasket. Yeah repairing the one you have may work for a bit but eventually you will have to get a replacement one. Aquaseal is the glue/sealant of choice for the repair. You will also have to finish cutting out your old gasket and sand the new gasket a bit so that the glue will work.

Thanks for the input. Does anyone know how much a new gasket is gonna cost me?

If you're in a hurry or the tear in your gasket is not extremely big you can repair it with the same glue and materials you use to fix a bicylce (inner)tire. It's the same stuff. i did that on my previous cag and it lasted for 6 yerars (untill it finally tore).

Replacing a latex neck is relatively easy but you need to take your time. It's not a rush job and you should buy a replacement kit, it comes with all neceaasry materials (except for the roadworking cone or bucket that you need to put the cag onto).
