Help ME 18 years 7 months ago #9494

For my a-level piece of coursework ive got to do ma presentation on a material, ive chosen kayak paddles, specifically my set of Robson Kombats,

on the robson website it says they're made of armerlite, however i can find no properties of this material, its almost like it dosent't exist outside of the robson website?

please help me out as quick as you can

thanks in advance

Amerlite was invented by Robson, so not supprising it is hard to find info on excpet for that one site. However, Twintex is the same thing (least I'm pretty sure it is) so you might want to try googling that and seeing what comes up. I ran it quickly and it seemed to get more results, but take a look. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

And good luck with a-levels... I had a choice between IB and a-levels when I finnished GCSEs... thought IB would be easier... still rethinking that one.

I will try and explain.

The Kombats are basically a aramid fibre (kevlar etc) mixed with a thermoplastic resin which makes a tough paddle but quite heavy.

Why dont you look into how pre-peg moulded fibre glass or carbon paddles are layed up as you will get alot more information on these materials as they are used in other areas not just boatin custom car panels for example.

For more information why not get a robson catologue email them or get your arse down to bavaria for a interview with they guys in the factory, some kuchen and some really good kayaking!

Hope this helps

I found this for Armelite:

www.thinklite.de/armerlite.html

GOOGLE TRANSLATED
translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&...zilla:en-US:official

You are going to be fighting an uphill battle because the manufacturing process and materials are patented, thereby making it difficult to retrieve detailed information on the process.

You may want to diversify your report a bit to include fabrication comparisson (traditional fiberglass VS carbon fiber VS Armelite).

I searched for Armelite through Google, which provides a translate funciton.
