Which is better: Kokatat or IR. I'm looking for a hardcore drytop and am probably looking at the Kokatat Rogue or the IR X-Jacket or Comp. I am somewhat framiliar with IR, but am new with Kokatat, although I have heard great things about Gore-tex. What are the opinions of both?

Kokatat Gore Tex stuff is very expensive. Unfortunatly it's worth it. Before I plunked down my money on a dry top I took a survey with my WW club (Gold Country Paddlers) I recieved about 30 replies. A few said you don't need a breathable dry top. A few said some cheaper alternatives work just fine. The overwhelming majority including some folks that put in about 100 river days a year told me the Kokatat Gore Tex is worth it and pretenders don't hold up near as well. I now have a kokatat Gore-Tex dry Top and dry Suit and they are great pieces of equipment. They are both at least 4 years olds and they are good as new.

One of the staff at work has been using her kokatat for 2 years and the fabric still beads. We haven't even washed it once. She paddles on average twice a week for a few hours. Kokatat is expensive but definitly worth the cost.

Yes, I think it's well known fact that the Kokatat is unsurpassed when it comes down to quality. You might also consider Level Six The Mack drytop. I've been using one for one season and been pretty satisfied with it so far. It's been very dry so far and comfortable to wear. The fabric, seams and tapes seem to be robust aswell. I'm looking forward to put more season in to it to see how it will last.

We have the mac at our store and it does look to be an awesome jacket but it has been a hard sell because of the stiffer fabric that is a result of the lamination process they use. We have a few customres that are using it and find it to be a great jacket and one that shows no signs of wear.
