I have been paddling a Jackson 4Fun since January 06. I have trouble attaining in it. Is there a technique for lengthy attainments? Also, do you have a recommendation on what boats have good attainment characteristics. I am
interested in a river runner/playboat. I do more river running class 3/class 4
but will park and play.

Attaining is moving your boat upstream, against the current.

Modern playboats like your 4Fun are slow and hard to attain. You should look for different river features to help your attainment moves. Holes, waves, diagonals, eddies are all very helpful when pursuing against the current. Have fun and keep doing your attainment practises because it's a very good way to practise riverrunnning skills.

Tuomas - I suspected it was the playboat plus my lack of skill. I was working a river that was flowing at 18,000 cfs. Building my skills by doing hard moves in easy water.

Thanks for the advice.
