how annoying is that! 18 years 6 months ago #9682

So I was looking to replace my super elastic bubble plastic river runner with a newer even more superior elastic plastic bubble only to find the manufacturer has reduced the price of the same model by 300 pounds. Such a shame as it means the re-sale on mine is now alot lot lower.

Great, thanks manufacturer, has anyone else found this recently? I was going for a kayak by the same manufacturer now I am wondering if that is a good idea, you expect to loose something but for them to help you on the way seems a little much.

Old models are always cheaper. Same as cars. Reasons... Well, maybe no longer in demand... Other newer models doing roughly the same job have replaced the older model... tooling costs and development work has been paid for and the cost can be reduced to give you, the consumer, a better price. In your case, and many others selling their boats second hand, this can be a downer. Don't blame the manufacturer ;) Thats just the way it works mate  Have fun on the water, thats the only thing that counts. Cheers ;) ;) ;)

Slap Happy I am guessing you are a UK paddler (The fact that you are the new murkey waters importer is a hint).

I would aso hazzard a guess that you are either talking about Dagger or Pyranha as these are the companies that knock down the prices of there older model boats the most.

If it is a Dagger boat then the reason that they are now available much cheaper is that production will have stopped of that model in the states now (like with the CFS and G-Force ranges). The molds are then sent over to the Dagger Europe factory where they are now knocked out (in a more efficient oven which makes them a little stronger as well) as a budget range. The fact they are no longer imported from the states means they can be sold a lot cheaper.

As you are now a kayak importer you should understand this saving.

If however it is a Pyranha boat then the new budget versions are a far more base spec than the origionals. The outfitting (including security loops) and colours are far more basic on there budget range of boats meaning that old full spec boats do not loose quite as much value as you may have first thought. After all if people are after something to run the gnar in then they tend to want it at the top available spec.

Denzil

P.S. would you mind PMing / e-mailing me a list of prices / constructions for the murkey waters surf boats (reaction, twist, nightmare, 88 , have I missed any?) you will be importing. Many thanks.

As denzil has said they tend to downgrade the specs to get more sales for people who do not need the top end narr running plastic bubble so they use an older design and put cheaper outfitting inside! (maybe to intice students or yunguns to buy there products) So if you want all the doo daas and nice outfitting strong security bars then you will have to pay top whack!

Could please pm a price list for your surf kayaks and in all specs as im looking at replacing my revenge in the near future:D

Yeah just a rant really just seen the new layup option and it is down graded, you know what it is ike though everything worked out in your head and you read an article that the price is dropped, Just annoying when said artilce says new out fitting but does not explain that it is better or not. It is a great kayak and in a way I am glad the cost of it is slightly cheaper, as the hull shape I have always found to be awesome. ho humm at least it is a talking point ;-)

The Dagger move is a good move for them and for paddling in general, as is Megas move to get their kayaks made in Oz rather than shipped hopefully this will make some more awareness of kayak surfing over there.

As a retailer I understand that you put thousands into R&D and marketing so the longer you can keep pumping out kayaks from the same mold the better for you and the general kayaking public. Still doesn't mean that sometimes someone will turn raound and think AARggghhhh
