Kayak Class 18 years 6 months ago #9985

I am teaching a pool session class for a local girls group. I was wondering if people could suggest some good games to play. I know some but hope that you know some I don't. Thanks!

Pool sessions with the local girls you said? And you can't think of any games? How old are you dude?

Glad to hear that at least you know some of the girls. I'm sure I know some that you don't, but I'm afraid they live too far away...

:roflol: sorry, couldn't resist....

I'll try to be more constructive again next time :bounce:

Unfortunately the girls have never been in boats so they most likely won't be rolling. Some of the girls are not even athletic. Jeroen I am probably about 10 years older than the oldest girl and my wife is instucting too. Although I would have a really hard time resisting a comment like that.

One game we used to play in our basics class (everyone needs to know basic paddle strokes and wet exits for this); Toss some kickboards (you can use balls or anything else that floats if you want, but it's harder) in the water. Tell everyone that these are landmines and they are out if any part of them of their boat touches one. People can pick up the \"mines\" with their paddles and throw them at people, last one in wins. Quite fun and good practice for maneuvering the boat.

You could also try kayak leapfrog (or slalem or whatever else you want to call it); divide into two teams, have them line up in their boats a few metres apart (closer to make it harder). The person at the back of the line has to go to the front by weaving in and out of the others (like skiing a slalom course). Once the back person reaches the front, the next person has to go. Race the teams to see who can get their whole group finnished first.

Races, kayak tag, ect are a great idea too - just make sure everyone can either roll or wet exit. Good luck.

just remembered one i did when i first learnt,
pair people off and then put the a couple of metres apart and get them to paddle towards each other and try to hit the nose of each others kayak with the nose of yours.

can be done further by having them paddle a little then use a stern rudder to hit the noses

One game that we used to play when i was in a beginner class...

-everyone gets 2 clothespins stuck to their grabloops
-you have to get as many clothespins as you can without taking the pins off your own boat
-whoever has the most pins at the end wins

this is a good one because you can do it paddleless and noone needs to know a roll

try a good old raft game. get everyone to raft together, make sure you are away from the pool edge. then one at a time they get out and try to run around the raft of boats and back into theirs.
