Dagger ID or Wavesport Transformer?? 18 years 5 months ago #10389

Am currently trading in my trusty big river runner for something smaller and more playful. Got 2 second hand options but difficult to decide between the 2 (Dagger ID and wavesport transformer0
Can anyone give me any advice in terms of which is better for playboating?

I do not know much about the dagger ID but i have paddled my transformer for over a year and have been very pleased with it. I learned to spin, cartwheel, loop, blunt, and backstab in it. Although it is much slower than the newer boats and a bit wider, but this makes it a very stable boat. I did feel that the tips often got in the way when surfing so I tended not to use them. one feature I liked about the outfitting is that you can pull the foot blocks toward you and lock them down once you are in the boat for a snugger fit. Ive heard that the Id is not very comfortable but then again Ive never used it. I would try them both before making a decision as well as others.

good luck

I've paddled my Transfomrer (T2) for three years now. I'm ready for a narrower and faster boat. But, I must say it is an awsome boat. I learned many moves and it is stable. I would recomend it to people who are begining to get into playboating, for sure.

I've a Dagger ID (7.0) now for many years and I still love that boat! It's a real cartweel-machine, enough volume for riverrunning (intill class IV) but also a great playboat. A very nice allround boat, if you ask me. A great boat to learn playboating moves.

Good luck

I don't know the ID but have paddled the Transformer in sizes (T2,T3 and T4). The Transformer is slower than more modern boats such as the ZG on a wave but still good fun for sure. Pretty good in holes and actually a pretty good river runner. The width makes the boat very stable. All the guys I know who paddle them, don't use the tips... The boat is not edgy river running but fairly slow.. obviously ;) being so short. Check out a nice drop being run here in South Africa with the T4 by Philip Claassens --->

and some play, further downstream...

and last one, Mike Pennefather boofing with a T2. This resulted in a blown deck with serious down time and a sore back... and coming up next to the undercut on river left. Most of the lines being run on the video are too far left ;) In fact the first guy nicks it. At high water it is VERY dangerous.

a video of it (enjoy - low water):

Yeah, I know, any boat could do that. Just wanted to inspire (force? convince?) you  No, just kidding. Give it a go and demo, demo, demo
