No Felix is really gepaddelt the underwater is not deeply thus should one oh land to some extent flat. It tossed itself some eddies and broke ribs. The video is shown in Rosenheim Germany at the kanu Filmfestival and comes then in the net.

34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13292

Now we have the proof of the world record in paddling a 34 meter high waterfall!

Everybody could see it yesterday at the 10th movie festival in Rosenheim Germany!

No FAKE AND NO JOKE at all.

Felix did not only one run, he did it twice times.

He made the second run with a helmet camera to proof the run for people, which don't believe it all

The owner of the record paddling a 34 meter high waterfall is Felix:clap:

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13293

Yeah, it was some amazing footage! Especially the almost flat landing from 34 meters in non-aerated water was very impressive....

Congratulations to Felix!

PS weapon of choice was an Eskimo Topolino...

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13297

where is this footage? Online yet? landing flat from that height sounds like a recipe for broken backs to me... Who is this guy, the terminator?

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13300

I talked to Felix after the show and he seemed interested in making the footage available in Playak videos soon. Not sure when or how, but I hope we will be able to show it to you soon.

One interesting aspect about Felix is that he used to practice cliff jumping, so he is used to jumping from huge heights, and he knows what to do in mid-air to make small corrections etc. Also, the world record falls is very close to where he lives/grew up, and they used to play there as kids, so he knows the falls inside out.

btw he did break a rib or 2 upon landing, because he was leaning way forward. if he hadn't done that, i think he might have had a problem with his back, as the compression on the spine would have been huge...

he certainly doesn't look like a terminator (ok, maybe a determinator, as he seems very determined and motivated). he is rather small but looks very strong. felix is also a very modest guy. it wasn't even his own idea to make this whole thing public. they used to call him the 'phantom of the alps', as everybody kept hearing about crazy stuff that he ran, but nobody ever saw him run it...

oh yeah, and felix also ran the rhine falls 6 or 7 times (more than anybody else i think).

( i hope i didn't make any mistakes in recalling this from memory - otherwise somebody please correct me )

:)

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13311

It's a montage. I'm sure its just a joke... he's not trying to con anyone, just having some fun.

The flat landing would break your back into 1000 pieces. Your spine would atomize! 111ft into a flat landing like that. You might live, but that's all. No more. You certainly would not walk away. Trust me... I've done it from 75 ft. Jeff Snyder did it from 45 feet, and we both had serious spine trauma.

Then, there is the paddler. The \"paddler\" is not only unanimated during the run, but in fact is surprisingly \"floppy\". it's a dummy in the boat.

The better editing is the 2nd run. It's all in the cuts, but they are there. The cut away from the paddler to the dummy just before the lip. Notice the paddle is backwards and unmoving during the approach. Not a single stroke or correction is made, on approach, or during the fall. The edit back is made at the moment of impact when the screen goes black momentarily. The dummy is spliced to the real paddler, running some small drop with a headcam for the footge thats needed, so \"he can roll up afterwards\".

It's very well done, and its a great piece of footage and its entertainment value is top notch. But it's obviously a joke.

Hello Corran,

I see you have a problem with this record.

Felix did the run twice and it's not a fake or joke at all!

Things are changing in the life.

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13314

You can't be serious?:roflol:

To even come close to believing this as real, I'd have to see the unedited footage of all angles. There is NO WAY the human spine could possibly survive that impact from the first run. It's just not possible. Everyone who has ever runa drop of half that height, and landed flat, will tell you flat out its not possible - from Shaun Baker to Dan Campbell to Jeff Snyder to myself, all who broke our backs on drops between half to 2/3 that height. Anyone who has ever boofed a drop of 30+ feet and landed flat will tell you they barely walked away, never mind stood there with a smile like nothing had happened, and this drop is 111ft.

Sorry, but it's obviously a joke - an early Aprils fools joke if you like. Felix is taking you for a ride as a private joke, and you're buying into it.:liar:

And the more people believe it, the bigger laugh Felix is having!!!

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13324

I got the videos downloaded aswell and my first impression was that it looked as fake as it can be. If your going for a waterfall world record and plan on using the video footage of the descent as a proof why not taking footage that leaves no room for speculation. That footage does nothing but.

On the second descent the dummy never leans forward, yet the Felix was supposed to break couple of ribs because of leaning hard over the front deck.

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13332

The first descent is a human body and spine smashing impact, regularly. :naughty:
But the guy has such big balls and is so cool.
He made a second descent to proof his unbelievable run to those who don't believe. :bitching:
Did Tao run Upper Johnston Creek Falls twice? :ask:

You better believe in calm kayakers from Central Europe than in mind f**ked presidents! :comfort:

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13334

I stand by my comment on the dragorossi board (though I'm glad to see the Riot team is on my board as often as they are on thier own) about Billy... or any athlete who makes a statement like that, including Dragorossi athletes: it's thier JOB to say the boat they are paddling is the very best ever. That's why they are on the team. The number of times I was told by athletes over the years from another team how much they hated the boat they were in, but had to say nice things about it, is silly. But its why they are paid.

As for the waterfall... I'm going to bow out of the discussion. I don't know Felix, even though I hear he's an awesome guy and an amazing paddler. I don't know anything about the supposed waterfall run other than the video, and I've stated my opinion of the video based ONLY on the video footage. So I have nothing more to add to this topic because I have no information to use that will accurately let me form a fair opinion of the claimed run.

Hi Corran,

I can tell you: Felix is paddling just for fun and not for money or anything else:)

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13336

I just re-watched the videos and it still doesn't look real. Like in the second run it is impossible to hold your paddle like that - it's sticking right out of the paddlers stomach!

But first and foremost. Why don't you shoot a video where the paddler and the falls can be clearly identified if your planning to claim a world record based on video footage?

It's a good joke and kayaking waterfall world record is a good subject to make fun of.

Re:34 meter high WORLD RECORD! 18 years 2 months ago #13337

Corran is right. I have seen many paddlers run high waterfalls. The comments of the runner's friends alone prove that this is a fake. Times change, physics don't. I read on Soulboater that he tried to influende the landing angle. A fall this high is impossible to predict how flat the boat is gonna land, it is ridiculous. It is a fake, no more. Maybe he had a remote controle so he could legally claim he ran it. Good that he did not because he would probably be dead by now.

I don't think Corran wanted to attack Billy, as he said it is his job. The astro is a cool boat I wished I could see the proto steve build before the Riot management chopped it down. I like the astro in the hole and on very steep waves but on flat green waves it sucks if you want to reach the shoulder, just to slow like all butt bouncers.
