which riverrunning playboat for tall and skinny 18 years 3 months ago #12040

Hi all,

I am looking for a river running playboat for myself, im 6'4 with a 36\" inseam and weigh 155 lbs (70 kgs). Which boats will fit me?

The liquid logic crossriver 125 looks good, but im not sure ill fit.

I would also like something i can learn to do some flatwater tricks and then bring them onto the wave and holes, thinks like bow stalls, stern stalls, cartwheels etc. Perhaps i am asking too much, any suggestions would be great.

PW.

Hi

I'd say a Jackson SuperFun (you might even try a fun) - the 2007 models have a lot more leg/foot room.

I'm only 6'2\" but have a 35 1/4 inseam. At 230lbs I was a bit too heavy for the 2006 model (just too edgy for my taste), but the new model is on my must buy list.

In the meantime I'm in a Jackson Super Hero, that'd be great too - but it's no playboat!

(No I don't work for them, I just love the outfitting)

Good luck

Pete

I am tall, 6'6 with a 35 inseam, and I fit into a 2007 4Fun with the large footbag in. It is super comfy. I would definately check it out. I wouldn't really look at the SuperFun unless it was a last option. It is freaking huge. The 4Fun would be much more playful and easy to roll.

thanks for the suggestions guys, i think the super fun is wayyy to big for my weight, and even the 4fun is a little big, there is no chance ill fit in a plain fun is there? The fun would suit my weight a lot better i think.

oo, I didn't see that you weight 155. I weigh 200, so the 4Fun fits me. You could always try the Fun, but I don't know how it will perform with the seat all the way back. You should also look at a Necky Orbit Fish. My little bro paddled one on the New in West Virginia and did fine. He has a little bit longer legs then me too but weighs less.

check out an EZG. you might like it, and if you don't fit in the 50, go for the next size up

I've got the EZG60. Got the seat all the way forward, got the front piece of foam in, which is a pretty large piece. Still got a little room to spare up front. I'm 6'. Haven't had the boat for a very long time but had some fun with it over the holidays surfing the sea. Not as loose as my ZG54 and won't get air as easily on small waves, which is not to say that it is not a good play boat. Afterall it is not a full on play boat. On a bigger ocean waves I could still get good air. Felt great so far running rivers. Outfitting is superb.

As was stated already, try it out...

im 6' and 150 pounds, i paddle a jackson 4 fun and love it. i've got great control over the boat river running and surfing, i just learned to roll and its extremely easy in the 4fun where as in other boats i've tried and not been able to get up. i don't have much experience yet play boating but its easy to flat spin and i've seen some people do loops and cartwheels with ease in this boat. for river running/play boating i would definitely go with the jackson fun, if you fit in the 2fun i would stick with that, i doubt you'd fit in the plain old fun, i know i cant. the super fun is definitely way too big. but awesome boat i wouldn't go for anything else.

you may want to check out the recoil, not sure if you would fit, but i have a seven o with very similar dimensions and I weigh 180, and am more on the heavy end. I am 6'1\" and sit in the middle with foam in the nose and a footbag.... you should be able to fit into one...

I have a 36 inch inseam and a size 13 foot, but am far heftier than you. I paddle a Bliss-Stick RAD 195 with volume added and love the boat for playing and river running (not that this helps you). With less weight you may look at the RAD 185. Their are quite a few paddlers of differing skill and experience levels in my club paddling the Jackson Star series as a river-runner and loving it. The SuperStar, for example is a big boat (I love that they put max inseam and foot sizes on their boats), but the ideal paddling weights for the boat while river-running and playing are lower than most for a boat with that volume. It sits pretty low in the water for the guys who are over that weight. The nice thing is you can ask Eric Jackson yourself. If your looking for something older or just to get you by look for an old Big EZ or Super EZ. I haven't found a lot of the new Wave Sport/Dagger stuff to accomodating of my long legs, but give everything a try.
