Building a festure on a river 18 years 3 months ago #12246

Hi everyone

This is my first post here, as i have searched high and low at home for information but have turned up nothing.

im am looking for solid information on building a feature on a river, preferably a wave but any info at all relating to whitewater course construction, holes anything would be great.

There are plenty of large volume rivers here in ireland, but these are mostly to be found in the flat midlands. the few feature that exist on these rivers are by complete accident most of the wiers on these rivers where built years and year ago.

what i am looking for is information that i could use when approaching a government or local council with a view to modifying any plans they had, to also benifit the paddling community. its inpossible to put an idea forward with any previous solid information and thats what i need.

technical data on wier sizes, cumecs, river bed shape, materials etc would be brilliant,

look forward to hearing from you all
thanking you in advance

You could probably get a lot of relevant info from the thames paddlers involved with the boulters weir redevelopment. Theyve spent quite a while convincing the environment agency to let them modify the weir to make a better wave. I think their plan involves a ramp made of railway sleepers. You might be able to get more info on the UKRGB forums.

If you want to look up the technical stuff (maths, engineering, etc), look in a fluid mechanics textbook under 'hydraulic jump'.

thanks everyone

, hydraulic jump that was the word i needed more than anything, surprizingly google didnt turn up alot of technical info on river wave, but hydraulic jump did the trick.

Anyone have website addresses for any uk or european based construction company who specialised in whitewater courses? thanks

when it come to official bodies here in ireland they dont want to hear from us paddlers due to insurance and all other stupid reasons, as of yet i have to hear of someone sueing the council for any accident on a wier!!!

politics!!

thanks again
