If its a plastic boat this is perfect for it
Try keep it out of direct sunlight so as the plastic isn't weakened by constant heating and cooling (i know theres a proper word for this just can't think of it)

A lot of what you hear about proper boat storage comes from fiberglass and carbon/kevlar boats. These should never be stored ouside and/or in direct sunlight as this drasticaly effects the resin used in them.

Every manufacturer of plastic boats (I've been in four factories) store their boats on end, inside. That's the best thing to do.

I worked for a summer camp that has some really old plastic whitewater boats and many of them have seen way too much sunlight. They are getting very brittle. It's easy to tell when the sun is having a negative effect on a boat when you notice that the outside color is lighter than the inside color.

It's less of a concern in the northeast and northwest because both places don't see the sun as often as the southeast and southwest.

If you have a place for your boat in your shed, then you will be just fine.

Concrete is reported to harm plastic, so put down some padding. I put a piece of minicell below the nose of the boat, which also gives it more stability.

I think it does make it brittle: years ago I found my Perception Whiplash (it was stored in my tiny bike shack, along with my bicycle) back with a crack after it had slid from its sling (I used a sling to keep it in place) and dropped on the bike.

At the time the boat was about a year or two old and not much used on rivers so it was not abused or anything.

Oh well, it gave me a nice reason to buy a new boat and the kid I gave the boat to (after I fixed it) had a nice boat for the ocean surf :D

never heard of the myth that concrete harm your boat when it's on end. yeah, when your over weight girlfriend think it's a ladder she might damage it or when your wicked twin brother play drums with your yak on the cement. I leave my kayak on end in my garage and nothing bad has ever happened to it. kayak factories store theirs on the end on cement as well.

I'll introduce my girlfriend to my twin bro so that they can ruin the world.

Cannot remember where I read that concrete was not good for boat storage, but most polyethylene is definitely weakened by contact with hydrocarbons (i.e, motor oil and such), and garage floor storage may have been what the person was warning against for that reason.

I am looking further into the issue of general boat storage on concrete with a plastics expert and will come back if they provide further information.

What summer camp do you work for? If it's in the southeast, chances are I've heard of it/know someone else that works there.
