While this is not a standard definition, we usually refer to a creek as a steep river. Some runs on 'rivers' are thought of as creeking because the stretch of river is plain steep.

Often, tho not always, creeking involves less volume than we think of a river having... but this is not always the case. I've run some creeks where 100cfs felt like a lot of water in places.

As a style of boating, creeking is about getting down rivers, typically through complicated or difficult rapids or features. It's distinct from playboating in the sense that the challenge is not to play on the features, but to get through them.

There's boats specifically designed for creeking, and in terms of design, they're generally higher volume and longer than their play bretheren. A creek boat is designed to resurface quickly, and many are designed to deflect off the surface or oncoming features in a way that keeps them on the surface.
