A New Playboat ........ From Mega?!? 18 years 2 months ago #12686

It looks like the people at Mega (World leading surf boat manufacturers) have had a new idea. I don't think this one is designed for the surf somehow!

I don't really know much about this boat apart from Malcolm was playing with ideas for a butt bouncer and it apparently has rails sharp enough to shave my beard off. I do not believe it has a name yet and I have no idea what constructions it will be available in (if it even going to be available in its current guise).

Hi Denzil,

I just posted some pics of the hull of this new baby. It has very sharp rails indeed: playak.com/index.php?option=com_joomlabo...7&id=12692#12692

Cheers,

That's allright *LOL* You managed to post more pics of the boat here so both posts nicely provide more information.

I am very curious though how it will behave in water. Wednesday will be its first day out :D

Cheers,

Michiel

looking pretty similar to the fiberglass playboat we're building. Then again, all playboats look the same... Are there online specs for length, width, layup materials, etc. as a reference?

I can assure you that the designer of this boat has never set eyes on your boat.

I am afraid there are no online specs yet as this is really a prototype to see if it works or not. As soon as information is available I shall try and post it up here.

Think I can backup Denzil there as I had a few mails to and from Malc a good six months ago plus, I saw a fibreglass playboat in NZ built by Kenny Mutton and was asking Malc if he'd ever consider building one. If your ever near the Kaituna river then I'm sure Kenny will give you a spin and far as I know BlissStick have been building prototypes using this method for years so it's nothing new as is probably how the playboat was born as plastic mould cost a mortgage at least. I'm sure Malc had loads of people ask him the same though as most just want a playboat for the surf for the days when it's messy.

I can't find the article right now but I remember asking Malcolm on the BT surfzone about his plans for a composite playboat (although in jest, well, a bit) and he asked for some ideas back then.

If the boat will be produced you can lookup specs at the Mega website I guess.
