I was out paddling this morning, practising loops in my new pyranha and found the backrest kept slipping down, underneath my a*se. This is pretty annoying, have other people found this happens?? They supply elastic to hold the backrest up, but elastic is stretchy and lets it move still. Is there a reason why there isn't a non-elastic strap holding the backrest in place??
Cheers,
Dolly

Hey Dolly,
What model of pyranha backrest have you got (Like syncro 5, 6 or connect 30?
:blah: )
Have you got a ratchet system in it...?
Just a few questions before i start giving advice :)

Hey Finn, its the synchro 6 outfitting so has rachets and performance enhancing grey colour. I tried racheting it up as much as i could bear and it still kept moving...

I have had problems with the pyranha backband when leaning back for things like a back deck roll, because it stabs into your back. If you mean it is slipping down when you get into your boat, lots of boats have that problem, just pull it up before you put your skirt on. if it is while you are paddling, try using the clip on the back of the backband to help hold it up, or simply put it on tighter. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a peice of crap...:roflol:
Yeah, alot of people i've talked to about it say it's got alot of flaws and random problems that keep springing up.
Pyranha have now come out with a new outfitting system, the connect 30... they've kinda gone back to basics, but it looks decent.
If you wanna get a new back rest, go for like the IR flex capacitor, really good stuff... :)
I guess, if the elastic has stretched itself, you should just simply look for a non-elasticated thin strap type thing...look in places like B&Q. Also, if you can get the same type of elasticated material, re-do the thing with new one, then everytime you put your boat into storage...un-tighten the ratchets! That way the cord wont have as much stress on it.

Hope that helps dude.

yeah man. I just got a m3 with syncro6 and the outfitting took me hours to get fitted. The backband pinched my ass everytime I would lean back to boof. If I were you I would put in the IR reggie back band in it. I did something else, which was a lot of work and took a long time.

I thought the elastic was only there to hold it in place while you get in. Im getting this problem when rolling my flirt. I took the knots out of the elastic so that they are held by the friction from the hole they run through to give easier access to the back. Ill try tieing them back on, if that doesnt work Im going to take off the loose neoprene cover and glue on some rubber or something.

Have you adjusted the plastic toggles under the cockpit rim? Also some people turned their backrest upside down to stop it from pinching their arse. I have not had a problem in either my old sevenO or H3 245:think:

I put a Pyranha Syncro 6 backband in my Necky Blunt and at a time it also pinched my ass. I just played around with how it was set-up. Working just fine now. I must say, it brings you to full attention when it pinches
hehehe

Interesting stuff...thanks for the replies guys! I'll try various things tomorrow to try and sort it out..think tightening the elastic will be the best option.

I had a look at this in the shop and honestly couldn't see any huge difference from they Synchro 6 outfitting, apart from the..err...nice orange colour. Is there much difference?

Hmm, i doubt it, i think it's slightly more lightwieght than the syncro series...
other than that, it is after all...just another backrest i guess.
Yeah just play around with the outfitting untill you get it, i'm sure you will.
If not, yeah go for the IR Reggie backrest... I just found out they've stopped manufacturing the Flex Capacitor! God knows why :(:cursing:

Tell us how it goes.

hey dolly,
hey i don't meen to be rude but i think that you are being a bit pedantic.
you just pull the backrest up and get on with it.
you should enjoy boating not complain about it.

Jack,
I do really enjoy my kayaking, trust me, but i sadly can't kayak all the time, hence i spend a few moments on this great site. I have a small problem with a sweet boat, so i decided to try to use the considerable exerience that this forum can offer to further my enjoyment and sort out a small niggle.
Also, if i am in a competition, pull off a loop, find my backrest is rather uselessly under me, do i pop the deck, sort it out and replace my deck , thus wasting time....or what??

Hehe...yup, Jack if your into playboating you should know that if your backrest keeps slipping under your butt, you can't easily pull off any tricks.

Hows the backrest going dolly?

Hi dolly,
If you go to the pyranha shop then there is a strap that you can get to tighten it at the back of your backrest so it sotps it slipping down!
Didn't meen to insult you lol
