hi its joey here. what do people think of the blisstick RAD series? I would also like to know if I am in the right wieght catagory and hieght wise. I am coming up to 17 and I am 6ft and about 15 stone (95.3kg or 210 pounds). i am also wondering weather the 185 or the 195 version would be better for me.
hope to hear soon

Hey Joe,

I paddle a 175, but friends of mine paddle both the 185 and the 195.

The specs for the RAD series are:

RAD 175= L=5'11\" W=25.5\" WT=32lbs VOL=42gal PAD WT=160lbs
RAD 185= L=6'2\" W=26\" WT=33lbs VOL=51gal PAD WT=200lbs
RAD 195= L=6'7\" W=27\" WT=34lbs VOL=56gal PAD WT=230lbs

So, I guess you're looking at the 195, particularly if the paddler weight guideline is consistant with that for my boat – I weigh ~145lbs and wouldn't like to be much heavier in the 175 even though the guideline is 160lbs. Also, if you're just 17 then you've probably got another two or three years of growing left.

HTH,
Ross

That information is not correct. The weight ranges for all 3 RADs listed on this site are the same. They definitely aren't the same.

I don't really know what differentiates the Super RAD 185 from the others apart from the volume difference. Hopefully someone else can fill us in…

Oh, and more importantly, if you've an opportunity to try any of these boats out before buying one then go for it!

Cheers,
Ross

The answer the weight question first, I would say the 185 would be fine. The 195 is for the really big guys: 6'6 & 17/18 stone.

The \"Super RAD\" is just the 180 size. Essentially the 180 was the last of the RADs to be moulded so they took some time to tweak it a bit rather than re-size it as a straight copy. To the naked eye there is not much difference and for the majority of paddlers it would be hard to find any performance difference between the 180 and the rest of the RAD series. I have been reliably informed that there is slightly less rocker in the tail which gives it a fraction more speed but you'd want to be a real nerd to notice (I sure someone will tell me otherwise). BTW the 180 tops out at about 14 stone and at 6ft you may fit in depending on shoe size. If you have the opportunity to try a 180 & 185, try both.

I am about the same size as you, and I paddled the RAD 185 yesterday (in a pool). This boat isn't too small for me, and there were lots of room in it for even bigger guys. I think it is a very well-balanced and fun boat.

Hi Joey,

Give Tom in Totnes Kayaks a bell (01803 864 300). As far as I know he still has a demo 185 available and he is super helpful.

Cheers,
Colm
