I've paddled my Flirt on grade 3+, 4 rivers without too much difficulty. It is a bit slow at times and in pushy water the stern does catch every now and then.

I would go for a Jackson Fun, its has really low volume, and nice cutting edges for easy flatwater boating. Flirt has more volume and makes it harder on flatwater. You should just try both boats on flatwater (most dealers are ok with testing boats on flatwater).

I used the small Flirt on the Zambezi for a full season, so it can definately river run. I personally think it is a much better flatwater boat than the Fun as well - much bigger flatwater loops.

Check out the new Fluid Nemesis too. I think I'll be selling my ZG54 in favour of one of these. Amazingly fun boat to paddle. Very lively.

Try before you buy.. L8er

I've got a Nemesis and, man, is this boat wicked. Goes flippin huge on a wave and loops really big. However, it is a lot more difficult to throw around on the Flat, as it wasn't designed for this (to quote Celliers). Don't get me wrong it is possible and it flatwater loops higher than any boat i've used but it took a lot of huff and puff to manage the boat on end.

If that doesn't faze you then definately try get one of these babies.
Otherwise the Flirt is the better option in terms of Fluid.

You should demo the Fun. I think you'll really like it.

Humm, I can't wait for the Nemesis Medium to get here. There's a prototype at our local shop but it's a Small and I can't get in :(

Then again, I mainly use the Flirt for flatwater and surf so I guess I'll stick to the Flirt then..

If surf is your thing, you must check out the Fluid Element. Contrary to popular belief it is not like your typical surf kayak. Its a hybrid between a playboat and a traditional surf kayak, wicked fun for all freestyle moves not just the carving types.

Sorry to go off topic ;)

@ScottyR: I know, there is a prototype of the Element around here as well but I just sold my Mega surfkayaks because they can only be used in the surf and I wanted to play more anyway.

80% of the time I paddle on flatwater because I live nearby it and a quick session of cartwheeling and bowstalling (haven't mastered the loop yet, but I will ;) ) clears my head from a day at the office. Surf overhere is no fun if you can't go whenever you like (like some mates of mine, who are 10 years younger, don't have kids etc.) :D

But I'll give the Element a decent workout this summer, I'm sure about that.
