I've heard the pretty distressing rumour from a couple of people very recently that Wavesport and Dagger are to stop selling whitewater boats as of next year?

Has anyone else heard anything similar or can anyone closer to either company or Confluence comment?

I heard something similar, that because they are both owned by Confluence that Dagger was going to stop making Whitwater boats and move onto leisure boats while Wavesport is going to stay whitewater - move all whitewater associates from Dagger to Wavesport.
Again, that is just word on the street and i heard it some time back so don't take my word for it.
I'm just as interested to hear the truth of it

Same thing that happened when Perception (Confluence) brought Dagger a few years back. Buy your stronger competitor then restructure, question is what will Perception do if Dagger is going to make leisure craft. Just a few ideas to fuel the rumour. It can probably be seen to in the designs of the kayaks with the top boats being converted into river runners then into an allround boat.

I can see it happening. Unfortunately some of the Dagger boats are much better sellers, at least at my store, than their Wavesport counterparts. I will ask my rep about this and get back to the post if he knows anything.

if this were true, i doubt if your rep would be able to tell you anything about it...

the rumor of dagger stopping with WW boats and wavesport taking over that part of the business, is about a year old. and that would have been much in line with when perception and dagger came together in confluence. however, the dagger/ws rumor never turned into anything concrete.

what worries me now is that ross says 'both dagger AND ws' may stop making WW boats, as that would mean that ws would not be making anything anymore.
is it a coincidence that ws brand manager jimmy blakeney left ws recently? and didn't ws designer robert peerson leave as well, or was that also just a rumor?

Yeah I caught the 'and' as well but figured that couldn't be true. They do make some $ with ww boats.

Maybe these rumours are spread by ex-employees, because of this:

Well, I could understand that Confluence would not want to waste resources and is optimizing Dagger and Wavesport, just like they did with Perception and Dagger a few years ago.

Even if Wavesport would cease to exist, other manufacturers would still fill that gap. It would be a loss but as they say: one man's loss is another man's gain.

Anyway, I'd be really interested in the truth about this. Please keep us informed ;)

I pledge to only buy kayaks other than Confluence, if Confluence begins to unemploy sponsored paddlers. I am very happy with my Liquid Logic Vision 56. I probably see myself getting a Nemisis or Jackson Star model as my next boat. I must continue to support the lucky few who have managed to make a living in the kayaking industry.

I am very satisfied with my Dagger boat and would be sad to see them leave the industry.
