Dear kiwis and kiwi lovers, I just added NZ to the Playak Flow Service:

playak.com/flows.php?country=New%20Zealand

I have no idea where exactly most things are in NZ, so I would
like to invite you to put those gauges you know on the map. To do
this, click on the gauge name in the list, e.g. Manawatu at Teachers
College :

playak.com/flows.php?siteid=nzhorizons&itemid=1032560f

and then you'll see a green link to put it on the map. Once
it's on the map, the gauge detail page will also show the local
weather conditions and forecast. Plus the gauge graphic will be
put on the kayak world map, and you can then click on the gauge
marker to see the flow chart. As an example, see this gauge in
the USA:

playak.com/map.php?om=6559

please help spread the word about the new gauge service, and
let me know which further gauges in NZ i should add.

cheers,
jeroen

Good job Jeroen, you have obviously spent a lot of time on this.
I am not sure what advantage there would be using the Playak Gauge over the 'one stop shop' service that already exists on the www.rivers.org.nz website. This already incorporates maps and has local weather station rainfall figures so that river flows can be predicted and depending in which council district the gauge falls also has other features.

thanks for the feedback. i don't see flows on that site though, just links to other flow pages. or am i looking in the wrong place?

it will often happen that regional flow pages have more details than playak flows. i think the big advantage of playak flows is that we cover the worldwide flows, all in the same format, so it's easier to find and check flows in other regions than your own. plus we can have them all on the kayak world map, which make it even easier to use.

and the 'sort by wetness' feature is pretty need imho :)

btw talking about a one-stop-shop for gauges in NZ, please look again:

playak.com/flows.php?country=New%20Zealand

I've been working on it all day and we now have more than 200 gauges in NZ alone.

if our readers in NZ can get the most important gauges on the kayak world map, the gauge pages will show the maps and weather as well....

playak.com/map.php

I see what you mean about the rivers.org gauges. For most areas when you click on the map (once the area has turned yellow) it takes you to a more area specific map where the various gauges are shown at their respective sites. But for some areas you do not get a map but a table.
ie: Canterbury (middle of south island) links to a map.
Marlborough (top of south island) links to a graph.

Not interested in a debate about which is better, just saying....
