yes i have read the guide book, and would be described as one of the local paddlers from Belfast that usually request permission before going on the river.
I am well aware that it is a salmon river and have a healthy relationship with the fishermen I have met and some have voiced their support for kayakers on the water, i spoke to at least three today. One we met also told us of a better start to the river than that in the Irish Whitewater book. I have also met and spoken to many of the estate staff who have always been more than willing to let us paddle, as long as we are not intrusive upon the people using the estate which we are not, and on some occasions on the off season have given us entry to the estate for a shuttle to aviod the boulder garden at the bottom.
Drops don't need a name that describe them, its just a name of a drop and that is what myself and the group of people I paddle with call it as a way for us to remember and discuss it, sadly I havent heard your uncle's name for it as it is obviously far superior - its just a name chill out a bit. Kudos to your uncle it is an awsome river that can be ran most of the year, that picture was taken mid last summer hence the low water, sorry for wanting to paddle even when conditions aren't to your high and almighty standards.
You obvisouly have a problem over nothing, seriously what was the point of that post?
