Howya all,

Need some advice, firstly I'm 5\"10\" ish and weigh 80kg or 13 stone and want a boat to play in mostly but to have low river running potential also I'd like to use it in holes and also a little bit of surfing too!Alot I know but bear with me please.

My favourite boats are definitely the Rad and the ZG and I'd like to know from those that have paddled either or both what you thought about either.

I'm relatively inexperienced but can roll and do a little bit more!

Any help is much appreciated!

Phil:frustrated:

Hey Phil, I'm am of course bias so won't try to do a compairison but at 5'10\" I think you would be a better fit in the Super RAD 180 unless you have very short legs. I and 5'11\" and fit well in the 180 but being \"old\" use the 185 for comfort.

Take Terry's advice and get the Super Rad 180. Much better boat.

The reason I like the 175 is because I'm quite flexible and fit comfortably in the 175, why move up to the 180 if I'm comfortable in a 175???

Would it not just make the flatwater freestyle harder???

You are still growing? Right... You might be limited on the time you could use the boat. Remember we are just making suggestions...

Hi Phil,

Again i would recomend the 180. At 13 stone you are too heavy for the 175 and the zg 48, they may be fine and easy for the flatwater moves, but once you are on whitewater, which im sure you will be, the small boat will mean that you will tail squirt or trip on your edges paddling a river. In a hole / wave you will be unretentive and get flushed easily.

The small boats good for the flat but looking to the future on whitewater the 180 would br a better option, imo.

I don't know the Blissstick RAD at all but I'd say go for the 180. I can fit into and paddle a small Fluid Flirt but there's no ways I'd buy one, I'd rather go for the medium.

I wouldn't either go for the ZG48 but rather the ZG54. I'm at 86kg with no clothes and paddled the ZG54 for almost 2 years. I felt a little big for the boat. Not as retentive as I could have been in holes and not as much 'pop' because of the reduced volume to my body weight ratio. Get the 54, it's still a great boat for waves.

Don't buy a boat on it's ability to play on flat water, you'll be sorry... ;)

Phil, at about 10 and a half stone I'm almost too heavy for my 175 – the bow tends to purl (dive) a lot, especially on a wave. The flip side is that it's pretty easy to throw about, but the 180 sounds like it would be ideal.

There are plenty of 'em in the club… ask someone if you can take one for a spin. Feel free to take my 175 for a spin also if you're unconvinced…

Cheers,
Ross

Cheers lads,

Any of you paddled some of the jacksons?
I'll have to try the 180 then and also a 52!

Thanks for the advice as I'm still a newbie!

Hey Phil, another reason for giving the 180 a look is the awesome pivoting thigh hooks. These are standard on the larger cockpits of the 180, 185 and 195.

But the best thing for you to do is demo them all! Sounds like you have a GREAT local club to work with!
