Foam footrest for a playboat 17 years 6 months ago #19770

Hi,

I just bought a second hand riot air which all fits me perfectly with the exception of the existing foam footrest which doesn't quite push me tight up against my backrest and accepts my feet at a crooked angle. I went out and bought a nice big block of mini-cell foam and I'm now hoping to build a new footblock to keep me cushy and cosy in my kayak.

First question, should I build the footrest to take my feet coming in from the sides as the original owner did or should my feet lie up against a single flat piece of foam?

Also, does anyone know of any articles explaining how exactly to build a foam footrest from scratch or does anyone have any tips on how I should go about doing so? I only ask because I don't want to end up with several lumps of foam floating around by my feet being nothing but a hindrance and having wasted my money o the block of foam in the first place.

Any help with the would be appreciated,

Cheers,

Dan.

click on this link and look at the bottom of the page.

making a foam bulkhead is very easy.
about your question of foot position, I have always just got into the boat without any foam first and see where my feet sit most naturally then taken the time to mimick that position on the foam

I know that this doesn't really answer your question, but I thought that I should throw in my :2cents: .In my experience with my playboat, a G-Force, i tried at least 4 different foam block setups. However, the one that i have stuck with at the moment (because I think it works better) is a ruby ball. Yes, a rugby ball. Why I thought of trying it in the first place I really don't know, but this is how I did it. Take out the centre foam supporting block from the middle (don't know if your boat has one) and cut from it the last 25-30 cm. Then deflate a rugby ball and squash it in there. With the centre block still out, I sat in and pumped it up until i was where I wanted to be in relation to comfyness etc. Then re-attach the centre block and voila! It may not be what you are after, but it worked really well for me. Good luck!

Thanks Scott, that link really helped! I have my boat now kitted out with a foam block wedged in for a footrest which so far has worked grand, although it is a bit of a squeeze to get into my boat considering that my backrest isn't adjustable while I'm in the boat. I'm defenitely considering those Jackson Happy Feet as an option, although I am a bit broke at the mo. After all I did just buy a boat! Maybe in a month or two
As for the rugby ball idea: novel idea, but I think I'll stick to the tried and trusted. Thanks for the help guys!
