Does anyone (i'm sure someone does;) ) have any suggestions for a river knife? I am looking for one and there seem to be a lot of options. Any ideas? Thanks!

G'day Mate

the company i work for uses Spyderco rescue knives. there are a lot of pro's and con's for fixed and folding blades or wether to lenyard it to you or not. there all your personal choice. if your shore with your handling or you have somewear solid to secure it then it shouldn't realy matter. the only thing we insist on here is that they have a rescue tip ( blunt ). the only real mith out there is the rust proof knife. even our Spyderco Knives get regular oiling. i'm sure thats made it clear as mud. :frustrated:

anyway have fun and good luck from us in Aus.:roflol:

Check out this thread:
playak.com/index.php?option=com_joomlabo...105&id=2891#2891

Might give you some ideas.

And this debate here for tying on or not:
playak.com/index.php?option=com_joomlabo...7&id=17255#17255

Also has some ideas. :-)

I've got the Petzl Spatha:
en.petzl.com/petzl/SportProduits?Produit=466
The smaller, serrated one.

And bought myself a CRKT bear claw too:

Sorry for that bad link but better than nothing ;-) Haven't used it yet and still using my Petzl actually.. :frustrated: :roflol: Oh well... Good luck!

wow! Thanks guys! I think I am pretty well convinced on getting a blunt tip, or at least grinding off the tip of whatever knife I get. What are the pros/cons of a straighter knife versus the bear claw style?

I really think you should have used 'Playak Go!' for this Adrian :)
See that it can be a handy service after all?

playak.com/go/

:)

Hey Neighbor, live up in Sandpoint, ID. We use the Benchmade H2o. Really a good one to have a look at. Should be several local stores that carry it.

I wouldnt use the spatha as the blade cannot be opened single handed or lock fore that matter, I use a Gerber EZ out river knife very good locks opens easily and can be stored in a pocket close to hand when needed, out of sight out of mind. I personally do not like knifes worn on the outside for obvious reason but each to their own.

Hi, I'm also looking for a Knife. I thought about that one:

Has anybody some experience with this knife. I visited my local shop and all they got costs about 70-100€, so this would be a cheap alternative (30€) .

I'm not sure if that knife could be dangerous cause of the sharp knife point.
Maybe somebody can help me out

Look at this link. I put it in in my first post if you look up...:

Chris, the Spatha was designed to be opened with one hand. I certainly can open mine no problems. Like most things in paddling, knife choice comes down to personal choice...

Badewannensurfer

I've had that knife for about two years.
I blunted the tip and fixed the sheath on my pdf.

The knife works great. no rust or anything.
I consider it as the best fixed blade safety knife.
(secure grip & cuts rope like warm butter.)
