Re:HELP! in choosing a playboat 16 years 9 months ago #22127

YOU PEOPLE!!? who you calling you people!!?!?:P

Well the volume is 55 gallon..

I'm 185 lbs and I'm in a 52 gallon boat.. My buddy is pushing 205 and in a 54 gallon boat.. so the volume is a little big for you being at 150 if you want a low volume boat for your size, but if you want a boat that can run the river and give you some play ability then it's a good size, but if you want something more for playing.. then I wouldn't go with it.

My opinion:side:

Seems that CR125 would be a little big for you. I've heard mixed reviews on that boat. It would be wise to demo it carefully if you are seriously considering it. Good to shop around.. :cheer:

well, since I am going to demo it in a pool (they don't have anything better), and I hope to get a little bit of a feel from it

i just bought myself a fluid flirt large but i am over six foot, handles amazingly, a bit advanced for my level but better to grow on the boat rather than get bored with an easy boat to start with then worry about selling to upgrade hey?! Also fluids are amazing for the price your paying...definately worth considering..i recommend them highly!

you don't need "contacts."

everybody has a contact somewhere - just shop for a decently priced used boat or on sale new boat.

I bought a new agent for $550.

My friend and paddling buddy has recently bought both a new 420 for $450 and a new Flirt for $425.

Just look on boatertalk.com under gearswap ... or, google the hell out of what you're looking for and look 2 - 3 pages deep.

you'll find a great deal. ship what you find Greyhound Express for $65 2 - 4 days.

Good luck, and don't worry about contacts. You're your best contact. I have friends that own paddling shops, are team reps, etc.. and I can find better deals than they can because I'm willing to put in the effort of looking.

Good luck!

What do people think of the LL CR 125?

As Laddie would say:

Avoid the CR like a street walking hooker!!!!!!! the only good thing (imo) about that kayak is it has a drain plug. doesnt do anything well and the stern is super catchy. My feet went to sleep right away...all round POS! but hey you might like it.

I found I was too large to try out a cr(250) myself, so I don't know how good this advice is, but you have been warned.

Shopping around is all well and good, but sooner or later you will have to jummp in and get wet. Your as hooked as the rest of us and face it this willll probably not be the last boat that you buy,. I started with one and now have a selection that covers everything from Sea kayaks to creekers a squirt boat and now an inflatable canoe. Pick on use the hell out of it and if you really don't like it find some one that does and start all over again its half the fun anyhow. greg
