I Speak for Canadian Rivers 16 years 8 months ago #22566

I am not much of a political animal however this is something I feel strongly about. It concerns rivers in Canada and a threat that may reduce access and navigability and you may be able to help. Those of you who have paddled in Canada know that we have lots of excellent paddling on rivers of all sizes and enjoy almost unfettered access.

Present Canadian law is that if you can float a canoe on a river it is designated as navigable and navigation impact assessments have to be done before you can build a structure on or over a river.

The Dept. of Transport is proposing to change the law so that for a river to be considered navigable you must be able to float a boat with a draft of 1 metre anything under this will not be designated navigable. This will remove protection from many many rivers. It will affect paddlers, wildlife, fish and anglers.

Please will you visit the web site www.ispeakforcanadianrivers.com/ ,read about the issues, browse around, look at the pictures and if you feel you want to support opposition to the change sign the on line petition.

Thank you very much

Hey there Rob. Thanks for the plug on the site. You are right, it is a very serious issue indeed and people should get on board if they can.

Cheers,

David J.

Canadians should also write to their Member of Parliament and or the PM
There are outlines of suitable letters on www.ispeakforcanadianrivers.ca/index.php/action/write-your-mp
