Hey Hey!

Looking to buy a playboat beteween now and Christmas but have no idea what to get. Anyone have any advice for me?
Im about 132 lbs, 5ft 6" and uk size 7 and a half feet.
I've been kayaking for about three years and am starting to playboat rather than just running rivers. Which are the best playboats on the market at the moment? I've been looking at the dagger G-force and the Jackson Star......

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Sarah

Jackson star is one of the best..
Look into the dagger agent, that's new for 2008 and a really really nice boat.

I'm looking as well, opposite end of spectrum, 2metres tall, 100 kg, would the Dagger Green or Liquid Logic Remix XP10 be good fits?B)

Does anyone have one and how do they go? Not in Australia yet so a bit of interest around them.

Look at the Jackson 2Fun, LL Biscuit, and the LL CR 80. odds are that most of these boats will be on sale to make room for the new models, so be patient. Also, the Pyranha Ammo or the Pyranha Ammo might be a great choice.

sorry. Meant to say the Ammo/420. also, the rev and the stretch look good. Fluid also makes the Spice, Nemesis and the Flirt. Only reason I didn't mention Dagger/Wavesport is the plastic  . weird thing is that on the email I got, it just said that :quote: "the pyranha ammo would be a great choice" followed by "huh??? :P :P :P "

The Jackson Star would be a good choice, but it is made purely for playing. A Fun would probably be a better boat unless all you want to do is play. Also, Dagger discontinued the G-Force, but you can still find reviews on Boatertalk, Eddyflower, and Playak. If I were you, I would be leaning towards something like a Pyranha Ammo. It is not as playful (?) as some boats, but would be a great allrounder. I have not looked at many playboats, but this looks like a good boat, almost like a mini burn. However, just wait to see if you can get a new boat for a great price. In Charlotte, I have seen a Prijon Creeker for $500 marked down from $1150, so just be patient and check with local paddling stores to see if they have any boats on sale.

I will say I've had some scratches in my boat, but nothing yet to where I've had any regrets on the boat due to bad plastic in 8 months.. I'll probably have to wait for 2 more yrs and I'll find out for sure if the plastic is bad.. but no problems yet! :) :P :)

Oh! and Bliss stick has a new boat out this year.. the smoothy, don't know much about it though.. I think the AllStar from JK got gear of the year award.. ??

actually, the WS Fuse got the killer value award and the Kayakpro Nemo got the gear of the year award. in 2007, the JK Fun got the gear of the year award. this is from outside.away.com, so i'm not sure if we're looking at the same site:huh: .

The G force is still being made by Dagger Europe, but the Star range especially the newer version are more fun to paddle. As the original poster was after something more playful, I would ignore the Ammo which is a river runner not a play boat. The classic star is good value for money, but at the cost of no happy feet sweet cheeks.

The Ammo is not a full on playboat, but is designed as an allrounder. Also, look at the Fluid Spice S or M and the Fluid Flirt S. the Bliss Stick Specialist is a 5'9" playboat, one of the smallest adult kayaks that you can buy. However, make sure that you demo the boats if possible, because you don't want to spend around $1000 on a kayak that you decide is too edgy, slow, etc. Also, old age at 24???

<b> Lol... Well i suppose what im really looking for is something i can use on rivers for weirs, drops and rapids but also so that its comfortable enough to go for long amounts of yimes on flats which tends to be the case on grade to weir rivers in ireland....

it is longer than most playboats, so that could be a problem if you want to loop. the Dagger RX 6.7 is like a newer version of the ID, so check it out. Also, the WS EZG, Pyranha Stretch, and the LiquidLogic CRs are all ones to look at for a similar boat to an ID.

There are only 2 on boatertalk, both the 6.9, so there aren't too many for sale. Since you are in Ireland, it will just be that much tougher to find one. If there are any forums/gear pages for Ireland, check frequently. Also, why do you have to buy second hand? If your reason is price, just check the local paddling shops for sales since the paddling season is ending soon, and companies want to get rid of all of the old boats to make room for the new models. check out www.Irishwhitewater.com and make sure to visit it frequently.

Re:Advice on Playboats 16 years 7 months ago #22850

id lean more to the Jacksons as opposed to the daggers... im not too sure at your weight what is better, I think there should be a good selection, and JK has the best customer service

My list would be

JK star
WS P45
Small fluid Nemesis

good luck

if you go to www.i-canoe.com/Kayaks/Whitewater.htm , there is a list of WW kayaks that you can check out. you may want to look at the Fluid Spice S, because it is designed as a river running playboat, but is only 6' 1".

I can get a Star in NC for 995 USD, or 677 Euros. the shipping would be insanely high, but it could come out in the 800 EU range. You could contact a car company like Ford/Dodge/Chevy and see if they have any shipments going to Ireland. you might be able to squeeze a boat in for under 100 EU because it is free money to the dealership. Also, you are so lucky that you are getting a kayak for christmas...

I have actually sourced a uk dealer where i can get one and including shipping would come out at about 950.00 which isnt to bad because the shops around her charge around 1000.100 for a star. Also normally if you order stuff from america u get hit with tax and vat and stuff and its would be about 600 euro on a kayak id imagine

it would be pretty expensive, but it depends on what the charges are in each country. Also, there is a Dagger ID 6.8 for $200 in Washington. www.boatertalk.com/gear/gear-detail.php?gid=27184

i was checking i-canoe and they have the Fluid Spice for 850. if you have 50 euros, you could get a new yak! also, i haven't seen any bad reviews on the Fluids since they upgraded the 06 models to fix a few of the flaws in the 05s.
