Hi getting a kayak soon and just wondering is there much of a difference between the new jacksons and the classics? because the classics are about 300 euro cheaper in most places.
Also what does anyone think of the liquid logic CR 80?
Thanks Sarah

The new Funs have slightly different hull/deck shape, size and outfitting to the classics. I had a classic 4Fun for three years and loved it and you won't go wrong, but if you can afford it get a new one, they're very comfortable, the new outfitting is great.

The classics come with a foam block foot rest hip pads and the older hull made from linear plastic not crosslink(due to it being cheaper) The New Stars and Funs come with a updated hull made in cross link, happy feet and sweet cheeks as standard. The new stars are awesome.

Most (if not all) of the first Jackson kayaks were made without any prototypes being made. I would go for the newer ones for sure.

well.. from what I've gathered in talking with jackson boat owners.. (correct me if I'm wrong) the old Stars kinda suck in comparison to the new Stars.. I don't know exactly why it is, but I just know that the hull design inside and out was pretty much completely redone and the new star far exceeds the old one. As far as the fun series go, there isn't too much difference on the hull design, for the top of the boat there is a big difference which is visible just by looking at pictures. The biggest difference is that the new fun series has about 4 gallons of extra volume than the old fun series. So, the older funs may be a better playboat cross.

As far as outfitting goes. the 07 and up models feature the cushy hip pads, revamped back brace, sweet cheeks and happy feet. The 06 and under boats, have plastic seat, padded back brace, and use foam for the hip pads and foot blocks. You could always buy your own outfitting and outfit your boat so that if fits you - Which I think is the best thing you could do, however, paying for the extra outfitting may be worth it to you to go ahead and get a newer boat. Sometimes though, you'll find the older 06 models being sold with the 07 and 08 outfitting.

In conclusion: don't get a 06 and under Star series, but getting an older fun would be advisable.

But, if what you need is 300 more, than just be patient and wait.. there's nothing worse than being in a boat that you wish you didn't have.. and 6 months down the road you'll be wishing you had waited because some killer deal will come around, and you're not happy in the boat you have.. :S

What is your budget? Also, Jackson sells the Boat Armor if you want to get an old version with newer outfitting. www.jacksonkayak.com/store/product.cfm?p...t=boat-armor-upgrade .

Its not so much my budget more my parents. Im getting the kayak as a christmas present and the most they're paying is 700. So its not really negotiable. Yeah i thought about getting an older jackson and then buying new outfitting seperatly but cant find any stores in Ireland which stock the sweet cheeks. Im not a huge fan of the happy foot rests either, So id be as happy with foam blocks,
Sarah

Have you looked into getting a used kayak? I-Canoe has a Bliss-Stick RAD 175 for 550EUR, an Eskimo Beginner's pack for 700EUR, a small Fluid Spice for 650EUR, and a new Robson Twintip for 500EUR.
