Short creekers

Hi, I'm basically looking at getting a new creeker as my current one is very out of date and is a little worse for wear!

I was looking into some boats and am quite tempted to go for a short creeker in the Ammo/riot sniper size range, how good is this kind of boat for UK rivers ad creeks? I also want the boat to be comfy enough so I can help out with some coaching at my club and whatnot.

Any suggestions on boats would be great, I'm 5'11" and about 13 stone.

Short boats will be slower, so you may want to look at something along the lines of an Eskimo Diablo, Prijon Embudo, or a Liquid Logic Remix 59. For outfitting, your best bet would be a Wave Sport Habitat 74 or the Jackson Hero/Rocker.

I imported a bunch of them into the U.S. and they did very well in the northeast, particularly New England, which has lots of low flow tight steep runs. Every time I see photos of Wales or Scotland I am reminded of home (New England)

Howzit Adam,

There are many great 'short' creek boats to choose from. But before you do so, have you paddled any? Have you paddled a 'long' creek boat and then jumped straight into a 'short' creek boat straight afterwards? If you haven’t, and there is any way you can, then do so. There are advantages and disadvantages to both and although the types of rivers you paddle will have an influence on your choice, it mainly comes down to personal preference. You need to feel what will suit your style better. They feel very different I can assure you. A shorter boat will be easier to turn but won’t hold a line as well and will react faster to external forces on the river, so you’ll need to be quicker with your reactions. The transition between a play boat and a short creek boat is not as radical as that of a play boat and a long creek boat. Something to also consider. See what works for you. Short creek boats are slower, have less reach to boof off of drops and are more likely to be backlooped.. Decisions, decisions.

13 Stone is 82.55 kg. I’m about 85kg at the moment, and 6’. I’ve got a small and a large Solo, and I enjoy them both. But if I was forced to keep one, it would definitely be the large. There wouldn’t even be a hesitation. Different strokes for different folks though! Good luck mate… :cheer:

Fwag Offline Senior Member Posts: 38 Thank you received: 0	If you want a good boat that is safe and easy to paddle and still moves when paddling: Eskimo Salto. They can't be beaten in tight, stony rivers. Semi round hull and superb material!!
