i learnt to paddle in a redline great boat for into to whitewater and i paddled it up to grade 4. I was only small when i had it and it did me fine. I im not saying that it is not a big boat though.

Start with the playboat. Like an EZ, or EZG, jackson Fun series. In a large river runner you would not learn to edge or ferry. Also, your roll would be much better in a playboat, b'cuz you would flip a lot more.

i disagree a playboat may be good in that opinion but i would not reccomend one for intro to whitewater. It is easier to take a beating in a playboat and also river running is made harder. This can easily put people off.

id say there are better options than the red line. The jacson fun series is actually an awesome boat to learn to roll and run rivers, performs almost as well as a riverrunner. Also they play well so they very dynamic, a good boat to get someone hooker on the sport.

I was actually looking into it as a c1 then started looking around at some other stuff. I wouldn't mind converting a k1 to a c1 but i'd rather just find a decent river runnign c1. I'm interested in playing a little but mainly want speed through long flat eddies and stability and control in whitewater class 2-4.
