Wave Sport Fuse 56, Dagger RX 6.7, or 6.9? 15 years 11 months ago #26136

I have been guiding on the american river for the past three years and really want to get into kayaking. i have a bit of paddleing expierence but not a whole lot. i would like to get a boat that will allow me to progress quickly but not be too radical. I have been looking at the Dagger RX and the Wave Sport Fuse I'm 6'2" 180 lbs if anyone has any recomendations for these boats or others that would be great.

Cheers!

Why?

Actually, i wouldnt recommend either the Fuse or Rx for a novice. If you had to choose between the two, id choose the Wavesport. I actually just bought a Fuse, and have paddled it once and am struggling with my roll. Not sure whats up with that, but im going to work on it. It paddles well though. I would think the Rx is a bit too stuby for someone getting back into it, but i guess it depends on what youll be paddling. There would be a steeper learning curve, but you'd become a better paddler quicker than paddling something like a straight up creeker.

I'll tell you a good boat that i think is a great all around boat that is easy to paddle and can do a bit of everything. A pyranha AMMO. Ive had one and sold it, but wish i hadnt. If i were to have a third boat that might just be it.
I havent paddled one, but i hear great things about the remix,

cjcc recommended two boats but gave no reasoning...ive owned the 4-Fun and have paddled the CR and those are in the same ballpark as the Fuse.

They are all in the same category, being around 6.5 ft, and more of a playboat than a river runner, like the Fluid Spice. WS plastic doesn't have the greatest reputation though.

I've paddled a Pyranha Burn and S:7 /2, LL Li'l Joe and Remix, Dagger RPM, Fluid Solo, and that's about it for whitewater boats at this point. The Burn had decent speed and handles like a playboat, the Remix has about the same turning, but is faster, and the Solo is at the top of both spectrums, as far as the boats that I've paddled. If you can, I would start in a boat like a Remix to get the fundamentals down, then get a full-on playboat/creeker, depending on what part of kayaking you like more.
