I went to sit in a few boats today so that i could see if i fit and was comfortable etc etc. i spoke to my local(ish) shop when i got there, and they would only be able to get 2 demo boats down to the shop at a time.

Long story short i went to see the biscuit 65, project 62, nemesis L, and the super star. I was comfortable in the biscuit 65 and the jackson super star.(to my surprise) so those will be the 2 iam going to demo.

Anyway i also sat in the project and the Nemesis aswell, and to be honest thought they looked and felt cheap and not aswell made as the jackson and the LL. Now i really wanted to like the nemesis because ive heard good tings about it but i cant help but feel that im going to break it or it will fall apart after a few runs down the Tryweryn.

Does any one own a nemesis or a project? can you reassure me of the quality.

Also although i can 'fit' out a nemesis i felt it was quite wide so my legs were open wider than was comfortable.

help me please i cant decide on a boat!!!

i wouldnt get the nemisis just beacause of comfort. the quality of the nemisis is good but not as good as the other 3. the projects are very well made and i would say are in the top 3 boats at the moment. you hant made it easy choosing 3 of the best boats out there. personally i would go biscuit or project. the jacksons are awsum but they grate like cheese. but to be honest get out there and DEMO DEMO DEMO! its the only way. i would say not the nemisis and see how the other 3 FEEL. your not really guna be able to kit out a nemisis. get a boat that feels nice and you dont have to do too much to.you would have no problems with any of the boats. i have tried all these boats ( well the size down eg biscuit 55 etc) and i would go project, biscuit, star, nemisis. i liked the allstar but i think the superstar is quite a bit different from it. whatever you pick youl have one hell of a boat on your hands!

How tall/heavy are you? I assume pretty solid to go for the large.

I was one of the first people to paddle a production Nemesis (medium) and have been since 2007. Still super happy! The quality is excellent I can assure you. Just because it might not fit your body off the shelf doesn't mean it's rubbish. All boats should get a little TLC and be outfitted to fit YOU> as we're ALL different... The plastic is top quality and in the unlikely event that there is a problem you will be greeted with first class customer service. Yes I'm sponsored so you might think I'm very biased but facts are facts. Maybe some Nemesis owners can add their comments here.

Im 6ft 3in and im now(having weighed myself this morning) 98kg or 217lb.

l realise i may have made a small fou par in not trying the medium nemesis. I do really want to try it now though! Another reason i have sort of discounted the project is because it was slightly tighter than the others. lastnight i was decided on the project and the jackson now im considering the nemesis again.

When i was kayaking a few years ago i had managed to master a cartwheel in a friends borrowed stunt bat(i think, was that long ago). The likes of loops and mcnasties etc etc were way out of my realms of do'ability! But now that boats have advanced hopefully i can to.

So now im confused again cos im considering the nemesis. Darn it i thought i had down to 2 (Thanks Adrian!

No really Adrian thanks for the advice im definitely gonna try and demo it.

I think your too heavy for the medium nemesis. I am 95 kg (and going down) at the moment and I'm really at the top of what still makes the boat paddle good. The reason I went with the medium nemesis instead of with any of the large boats is because I fit in all medium sized boats. All big boats feel like bathtubs to me. However, most medium boats don't float me high enough. The nemesis is one of the only boats that has just that tad bit more volume. Which makes it sit in between the medium and large sizes of most other brands.

That's my MAIN reason to pick the nemesis above the rest. But If I would have been 15 kg's lighter, I'd probably would have went with a project or allstar. If I'd weigh 15 kg's more, I'd go for the superstar and at least demo the biscuit65. No matter how you look at it, the nemesis looks like a last-generation design. Don't get me wrong, it paddles great. But it's less speedy and less forgiving than a project or allstar. I think they could have made it a bit faster if they would have dropped the kickrocker a bit.

I have been very happy with my fluid though. Like Adrian said, the customer service is really good. My first nemesis suddenly had 2 big dents in the bottom hull. The boat was apparently from a bad batch and I got a new one withouth any problems.
Then theres the problem with the seat hinges where the seat hangs into the side of the boat. I can imagine that this is specifically an issue when you are on the heavier side. One of my seat hinges tends to break every few months. But again, I get a replacement everytime without any problems. And my dealer told me that Fluid is working on new outfitting which they will be showing at the Kanumesse. I also heard that there will be a carbon nemesis.

I don't know anything about the other boats you are looking at but I can give you my opinion on the Nemesis.

I am a pretty big guy (6'2" and about 103kg) I first paddled the Nemesis M about 2 years ago on the Nile and really enjoyed it. At the time I was paddling a Riot Turbo 52 and the Nemesis made a huge difference for me. I have been paddling the M since then and it is a seriously good boat.

I have also had very good service from Fluid in the past.

I paddled the Nemesis L for the first time on Saturday and apart from some bad outfitting by the owner (Adrian don't Laugh) it felt really good. It was pretty easy to cartwheel and felt good in moving water. I am hoping to paddle it a few more times before deciding to buy.

As Adrian has said before the big thing is getting the outfitting right for you. Like all of my Fluid boats it took a little bit of work to get the boat feeling good and fitting my body correctly, after that I was smiling:).

I am sure you will enjoy your new boat what ever the make.

My take:
I am about your height 6'3" / 4" ish and bit heavier, 102kgs.
I have paddled an 07 model Super Star since 07.

I am South African and know the Fluid boats and really like them. I have only paddled the Nemesis L a few times at one play spot, so here are my SUBJECTIVE opinions:

Super Star - its comfy, loose, very fast in a front surf and very forgiving. I do find the SS to be fast on a wave. I can often surf green waves my friends in Kingpins etc cannot...
It has a very low volume stern which makes loops easy BUT I find it is very unbalanced when cartwheeling, you have to readjust the angles of entry signficantly for each end. I really battle to to do backstabs in it - I also suck at back stabs! I can generally back surf waves well but find the SS a bit of challenge because of the small, low rocker stern, it likes to catch if you dont keep it carving in a back surf. It runs rivers quite well. Its dry and light but I think the JK outfitting is overrated...

Overall I am very happy with it.

L Nemesis (based on little experience): This would be my prefered boat but it puts my ankles at a wierd angle which hurts. This might be solveable with some foam, I dont know and as I said this is my issue, not the boat's. I have long legs and perhap am susceptible to this dicomfort as other tall dudes didnt complain about it.... It is also quite forgiving and very loose. I only played on a small breaking wave-hole feature, so can't comment on speed.
Its MUCH better at vertical moves than the Super Star, I could back-stab it without any hassles as well. It feels good allround! Apprently they run rivers well, as this an area of focus which they pay attention to in the design.

I think Fluids are great quality and really like the outfitting. JK foot bags need to be constantly readjusted for a tall guys like me. Fluids are also light weight.

Was this in the netherlands? Didnt think there was much in the way of playspots on the flatlands?

At 98kg I would say go for the large. You'll be upright more of the time and more retentive in waves/holes.

The seat things have broken for some people but this is not common. The new outfitting looks really awesome I can assure you! I believe it will probably be the strongest and stiffest out of all the manufacturers.... I can't post photos of course so you'll just have to wait until Fluid gives the go ahead for public release. I've got 4 Fluid boats at the moment, just sold 1 the other day, and I've not had any issues. Very solid boats. No fancy nonsense.

Also i went to canolfan tryweryn today and stopped at eddie lines in langollen (excuse my welsh spelling) there selling the nemesis for £549! Im definately gonna try and like this boat.

Just to let you know I took a mate of mine's large out to a local river yesterday for a proper test.

I really enjoyed the boat both in moving water and in a few holes. It is the perfect boat for someone my size. I felt a big difference in ferry gliding and eddying, the extra volume makes it a much easier boat to paddle.

I must admit it is not as easy to roll as the M but with a bit more outfitting and a few less bad habits I'll get the hang of it.


Adrian, Braam paddled my Nemesis M yesterday and styled! For his first time running in a playboat he did very well. I am going to have surgery on my knee so will be out of paddling from the festival till next year. Braam is going to take my M after the festival.

New model? No, new outfitting. I'm not sure.... Definitely the next shipment that goes to the USA and Europe (and down South) would have the new outfitting, I'm fairly sure of that... But can't say for sure of course. Sorry I can't be of more help! There is a new whitewater model coming out, some very awesome recreational stuff and a few other tricks. Stay tuned..... The show in Germany will reveal a lot!

Visited Braam today on the way back from the river. He suffered from a severe hangover and could not paddle. He looked bad today, and that was at 18:00 tonight!!!! Hahaha. Glad you love the boat! Well, then during the festival we'll go extra large. My tent sauna will be up and running for sure. Good times await
