I am 5'7"ish, and couldn't fit in a star. I would go for the All-Star as the smallest model, but probably a Super would be better. I didn't move the seat, but when I got my legs in, I was sitting on the back of the rim.

I am too. I saw one at NOC on the floor, and wanted to see if I would fit.

Re:2010 Jackson Star 15 years 6 months ago #27914

I am 5'10 and although i havent paddled one, i have sat in the new 2010 star, the one i sat in had the seat in the bog standard centre position and i actually managed to get in this one, i was hoping i could in the previous years model, but wasnt even close.
For my height, i felt that i would have no problem paddling it, however, im not sure just how long i would be able to paddle it, its still very small, and it is cramped for larger people as this isnt really the intended paddler size, also i felt that the major point of discomfort for having the smaller size kayak is the feet, not the footspace necessarily, as this is pretty decent, its just that when you are so crammed in, the bloodflow was restricted, this is where my concerns of extended paddling sessions came in.
Obviously the seat could be moved backwards, the happy feet removed (although i squashed the one that was in there almost out the front of the kayak) and other mods made if required, but in out of the factory outfitted mode, i felt it was too tight a fit for me to purchase for myself.

hope that helps

Dave

that sounds about right, I'm not planning on running rivers in it, so tight is good. Thanks a lot.

bondmi6,
How much do you weigh and how advanced are you? I'm 5'10 and weigh around 160-170. I tried out the All-Star at a park and play wavehole and loved it. I couldn't have imagined going any smaller. Seemed snug but comfy.

yea for river running tight is one thing, but even spending a long period at a playspot in a boat that is too tight can end up unenjoyable, i have already found this from a previous boat purchase, make sure you sit in one before you purchase one yourself, or even better get a demo.
Also, you can make an all star pretty tight, im actually pretty lightweight and skinny, i weight about 130, but my all star is a tight fit where it matters, but with enough extra space inside that i dont die on longer sessions
