General purpose bost needed, with a playful side 15 years 6 months ago #28006

HI all

Im getting back into kayaking after quite a few years abscence, ive been paddling a friends tuffy for a while now and to be honest its really really boring. I was looking at a general purpose boat that I can instruct from but equally have some fun in, not knowing an awful lot about new boats I started looking at acrobat 270's and perception pirouettes but sadly I cant find anything half decent without travelling the length of the country.
Im 5'9" and 11.5 stone with size 8 feet, so any help in choosing a boat, or if you may have something for sale it would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and I'm in the midlands.

Cheers

Justin

I have a dagger juice 6.9 in blue/white its the new dagger europe spec (it has bulkhead footrests, rachet backrest) I want to sell so i can get a bigger boat thats a bit more boring :) its less than a year old and has only been paddled on the Tavy, CIWW and the frome a few times so only a few scratches. I want £525ish for it as its in good condition and could deliver for arround £50 which would solve your travelling issue. I am just over 6' and 11 stone and it suited me for my coaching when i did my level 1. Its playfull aswell but also has enough volume to have small people sat on and to empty other boats on it. Other options you may like are the liquid logic lil joe? I dont have one but its a option. If you are interested my email is [mail address protected from spambots with javascript]

don't go for the acrobats and pirouettes.

For your size and weight I would say go for the Fluid Spice either in Large or Medium. They are truly in my opinion the best "do everything" kayak that I have had for many years. I use a Large as my creek/river runner, I am 6'1 and weigh 74kg's (no idea what that is in stone), so I am a bit on the light side for a large but i chose it for the volume and length, I can still do the majority of the average playboating moves in it without to much strain. Works great as a kayak to coach in.
So if you want an all round kayak that you can enjoy on the fun and the more serious then you can't go wrong with a Spice. If you want to float higher then get a large, if you want to be able to play easier then go medium.

The Spice is an awesome boat for sure. I'm 6', about 88kg and I paddle a medium. I really enjoy it. Read my review:

What I must mention is that Deon is an extremely skilled paddler and most paddlers would not be able to play as he does in the large. Just my two cents. :P

I have a necky switch for sale, it was my first boat and i am about the same height and weight as yourself. Its a good all round boat. I have done my level 3 assesment in it, paddled grade 4 rivers, and it surfs and plays like a trooper. Last week I did my 4* surf training in it, hense the resson to sell, so i can get a surf boat. I would like around £300 for it. If your interested let me know i am based in the south west.
