Vote for my art, and help a whitewater junkie 15 years 4 months ago #28636

like so many people, I too am begging for votes
but, the boating community is so cool that they usually respond
(the apathy in some other sports is stupifying)

1 - 10 stars (10 being the best)
and I have an ok score so far, probably the best I've done this early in the voting
www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/showdown/index.php?showpic=246215
so, if you would be so kind to click the link, click the amount of stars (obviously a 10 helps me more)
and then you're done

This is just the first round of this session but making it through this week into the knockout round gets the artist a fair amount of attention (up against 2400 other artists)
and could help me in my effort to get this new body of work a place to show

Thank you.

Scott

The response to this, from the whitewater community, has blown me away.
www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/sho...showpic=246215
THANK YOU ALL VERY VERY MUCH
The voting is not over (it ends on Monday morning at 4am), but I'm very grateful for all the votes so far,and just wanted to be a geek and express my deep appreciation to all of you.

p.s. I have prints of similar pieces in the works. And there is a whole body of work that goes along with this, but it is all in progress. A lot of the work on this will be done in February and March. I'll post updates on my blog regularly
www.artandwater.blogspot.com
and will post back here when more of the overall project is finished
(don't want to clog up a whitewater forum with too much art stuff, particularly when there's boatin' to be had!)

Re:Vote for my art, and help a whitewater junkie 15 years 4 months ago #28674

for those who voted for my art
I narrowly lost out to some other people
when 2400 artists are competing for two spots, the chances are slim
but, I was happily suprised by the show of suppor the boating community gave me
so, as a way to say thank you, I put my art on some postcards/notecards by adding a new section to the service I usually use for printing tshirts

www.cafepress.com/artandwater/6421171

I can't give away cards, stickers, posters, or anything else I came up with to say thank you
it's an economics thing (and a starving artist thing)
but, what makes this special is that all three paintings that are on the notecards available for purchase
is that the series is not yet complete
none of the paintings have been in a show yet
this particular section isnot tagged or registered, thus will not come up in the marketplace
and I'll take it down some time in January
Therefore, it's likely that only those who click the direct link will see or get these pieces
and those who do get them will be among the very few who have them at all.

I thought about posters, but the resolution through Cafepress is not impressive for bigger stuff.
I'll probably do Giclee prints in the spring of one of the images, but that ends up costing over $100 for very small images.

Anyway.
Thank you all who voted for me.
This is what I have to offer until I make a bit of a bigger impact on the art scene.

Do you have them available in a mixed pack of the three images? Or must one buy three separate packets of postcards to get all three images? I, for one, would love a packet of mixed postcards! :silly: Nice work!

The printing service does not do mixed packs. But, I just put up single greeting card sized ones so you can get those one at a time. (postcards only come in packs)

Perfect! As soon as I move into my new place, I'll place my order...thinking of framing them :)

Hey Scott

Sorry you didnt win dude, your art is cool. commiseration's.

I dont know if im still a bit hungover from xmas or if it isnt clear in your last post, but how does a fella go about getting some of your art?

I read it and gathered its available on a postcard? I like the one you have for a profile picture aswell.

Like i said im a little confused, also would you or the company selling them be able to send it to the U.K?

Cheers fella, keep painting

Re:Vote for my art, and help a whitewater junkie 15 years 3 months ago #28736

Thank you.

On the top right corner of this page (in the link)
www.cafepress.com/artandwater/7009814
there is a function to change currency, which also indicates which countries this printing service has shops. There is a page for pounds sterling, thus they are also made/shipped in the U.K.

I offer these works as postcards/notecards only through this service for two reasons
1. I don't like their poster print quality because the ink just fades too fast
2. These paintings are the beginning of a larger suite of paintings that I'll be working on throughout the winter and spring. When they are finished, I'll figure out where they show as originals, and which ones (if any) are photographed for high quality giclee prints.

Again, thank you for the vote of confidence and support. Your kind words mean a lot to me.

Re:Vote for my art, and help a whitewater junkie 15 years 1 month ago #29300

Found a way to get some high quality print work done that will last much longer than an average poster.

totalwhitewaterfun.blogspot.com/2010/03/...ating-community.html

I'll post more on the blog as I get the printer's proofs and approve them for a print run. As a thank you tot he boating community, I am offering first option to buy to whitewater folks by putting the info on the blog only, about a month before building up the full website that will be promoted more generally (with higher prices)

Were are going to redo our site soon and add a list of fellow paddler / artists to it so when ready I will give you a call to see if you want to be added.

All the best
