Creeker with rails 15 years 1 month ago #29337

After recently selling a nomad due to not liking the full on displacement hull, im after a creeker with some rails/semi-displacement. Any suggestions?

Cheers

I paddled a solo in NZ recently, it was very nice except I feel it's way too heavy to be practical, although it paddles so nice...shame.

I own a short pyranha ammo as my creeker. It's short and its not bad, but it's not sized for me (I'm in a Large when I should be in a Medium), so it's not perfect for me. It's a nice boat but because you have to use the rails being more of a planing hull, and having too much volume, it's a little hard to keep it up on an edge. If I had one in the correct size I think I'd really love it though!

Not sure if that's any help, but there you go :)

The Solo is lighter than a lot of creek boats, I really don't find it that heavy. In the end, I'd rather paddle a heavier, stronger boat which won't wrap on me and keep me safe than something light weight. But still, it really is not heavy. I won't mention any other brands but get out the scales at your local dealer.. Boat of the year in 2009, need I say more... Try one, you might like it.

Thanks for the unbiased opinion Adrian, haha ;)

I'm yet to pick up a heavier kayak than a solo, or even one that's close. I've probably only picked up bliss stick, pyranha, dagger, riot creeker type boats. Having said that, there is no boat out there that feels as strong as the solo.

I paddled a pyranha Burn on a recent trip and I really enjoyed it. I'm more use to paddling full displacement like the Nomad, but the Burn impresssed. The burn was just super stable on manky water and boofed like a dream.

The solo is heavy although the brochure weight shows it a bit lighter, in the end thicker can mean a bit stronger I guess. Sucks when walking in or out though and NZ got alot of those.
