small playboat 14 years 6 months ago #30259

Hey

My brother is looking for advice on a new playboat he is looking at the dagger G-Force 5.9 and the Molan small or a second hand Wavesport Fuse 35. He is 12 and 35 kg and is not sure if he would be a bit too light for the Molan.
We were looking at the Molan for about 700 euro and the G-force for about 500 euro and the fuse for 400 euro. The G-Force and the Fuse have like club spec outfiting and the Molan has connect 30
All advice appreciated

Thanks

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I'd say it would depend on what your brother wants to do. The G-Force is an older playboat. The Fuse I would say is more of a river runner than a playboat.

If your brother just wants a smaller kayak to learn to run rapids in, I'd probably lean toward a more river oriented kayak like the fuse.

If he is after a playboat to learn tricks in, the Molan will be the best by far. It's one of the latest kayak design's, made for the latest tricks. He would find this kayak the easiest to learn tricks in. Also, 12 year olds grow fast, this kayak will keep up with him as long as he continues to fit it!

As for being too small for the kayak, I think he will be fine. He will be on the light end of the weight range, but I don't think he will be too light.

Click here to compare the Molan S and the G-Force 5.9. - As you can see, when comparing the 2 playboats, the G-Force is actually longer than the Molan. The Molan does have 5L more volume, but that's nothing. The Molan, being a modern design and shorter length will be the best of these 2, and won't hold him back whilst he continues to grow.

One last thing to mention: whilst the Molan is also the more expensive of the kayaks. Given that this is a current design, it will hold it's value a lot more. It may cost more now, but you will be able to sell it for more once he's outgrown it. So I'd imagine you wouldn't be any more out of pocket when he's moved on.

Cheers,
Allen.

If your light weight don't get club spec fitting you won't be able to control it. You need to be in conection with your boat to be able to menouver it and control it properly. Conect 30 fittings are pretty good ive been impressed with them. Its not worth considering a playboat without proper fittings in my opinion.
