It's a river running playboat, like the jackson fun and the wavesport fuse. They won't be as stable and confidence inspiring as a bigger river runner, so you'll need a sense of adventure, and you'll need to learn some technique. However, ones you get over that, boats like this can help you start out in freestyling, it's a very suitable boat for someone that has been paddling for 1 or 2 years and would like to have some fun. Some people would argue it's better to get a nice fat riverrunner now and add a playboat to your collection later, but than again many of us don't have the money or space for that sort of solution. The general rule is that a smaller boat will be more fun on the river, the problem is that sometimes the river has fun with you.

thanks very much for reply, looks like i will head back to the wave sport diesel 70 for a year or two. its so hard to pick the right boat for a beginner, some say the diesel is to good and stable and will slow up my progress, then they say the burn will be better ha ha think are just get the diesel and get paddling

Don't worry, picking a boat is hard for everybody. ;) The diesel is a good boat to learn in. We have a few for the beginners at our club and they're always the first to be taken. However, a kayak is not something you can choose over the internet. If you have a chance to try out, have some fun with or paddle some rivers in other boats, including the varun or any slightly bigger but still playfull riverboats, go for it.

I'dd personally (ideally speaking) pick the diesel over the burn for a beginner since the burn is a bit more of a full on creecker and the diesel was build with a little more "normal" rivers in mind, but they're both good and stable boats and quite similar in length and volume, and if I had good experiences with the burn I'dd probably give exactly the opposite advice.

You're absolutely right though, just getting in a boat and getting paddling is the best thing to do, anything else, including dubbing on what boat to pick, is secondary.

Do you mind if I ask a bit about your situation?

You paddle with other people right? Are you in some kind of club? Can you borrow or hire a boat there? What kind of boats? Do you go paddling often? What kind of white water is there in your area?

That would help me and others here a lot to get an idea of what kind of advise we should give you...

(By the way, I had expected Adrian Tregoning to come in and advice you to take a look at the Fluid Spice or Detox by now. Guess I'm not much of a predictor than.)
