Riot Tekno vs. Perception Mr. Clean vs. EZG 18 years 10 months ago #6697

I know these boats are all different, but I need all of your opinions.

I have access to a:
Riot Tekno for $250
Perception Mr. Clean for $200
EZG 50 for $450+

I've paddled the EZG several times in the pool and down some class III water. I have never paddled the tekno or the mr. clean. I have quite a few boats to compare to as I am a member of my colleges Kayak club which is teamed up with a kayak shop. So if you have comparisons for how any of this will ride feel free to compare to most jacksons, daggers, or wavesports.

I am 6" about 175lbs and this boat will be mostly used for flatwater practice and occasional class III runs. I've been boating about a year and I've been down class III water in a little vision 44 and was comforatble so I don't think the sizes and edges would be TOO much of an issue.

Yeah, I know its a great boat I've been paddling it as a demo for a while.

My problem is that I'm a poor college student and my budget for everything isn't even 500 bucks. So I'd have to practically steal a skirt, helmet and paddle.

So Another question I guess is wait for the EZG or no...

If anyone knows about the Riot Tekno or the MR. Clean please try to compare to another boat cause in the end I need to save money. Thanks alot! I'm also a 32" inseam if anybody can compare for fitment.

I don't know about the Mr. Clean but the Techno is a fast wave boat and not much of a river runner. If you were spending more time in the ocean i would say definately go for it. But you might have some issues advancing in flatwater moves.

Good lines

Dude the EZG is the best boat there by a mile.

The Mr. Clean is really very dated (although it was a ground breaking boat in its day).

The Techno is not a bad but but a slightly flawed design in my opinion.

just my opinion though,

well I've kind of ruled out the EZG because of cost. I'm looking to buy used, and I think I can get a demo EZG from a shop for like 450 maybe. Problem is money guys.

I may go with the Tekno, so will I be able to learn my cartwheels and such on flatwater with this boat?

The Mr Clean will be (slightly) better for flatwater stuff and hole-play. The Tekno is a good boat, on a big wave or in the ocean it'll be more fun than both the Mr Clean and the EZG (my opinion). Tekno will be the hardest for river running, but not impossible. Its also heavy. Both of these are going to be a little bit more difficult to throw down in flatwater than a new playboat such as a Jackson Fun, Kingpin, or ZG. As the others have said, the EZG is the best all-around boat by far. I'd say its maybe the best river-running playboat for sale right now.

My suggestion, if you're going to be on flatwater, holes, and small waves, go with the Mr Clean. If you're going to spend much time on big waves or in the ocean, go with the tekno.

I have a Mr Clean and my fellow club paddler has a Riot Tekno, Personally I'd choose the Mr Clean, it's a bit bigger, bit more leg room, I've ran grade 4 in my Mr Clean and my boat and I were fine, the Mr clean is good on flatwater too, easy to do tricks in but the best thing it does is ocean surf, it was my first boat and still is my first boat I love it that much.

The Riot Tekno, a little harder on flat water, I didn't really feel comfortable in it for a while but I got used to it slowly, less leg room and when I got out I couldn't feel my legs, I've ran some small stuff about grade 2 in a Tekno and it was great fun.

I'm Mr Clean all the way though.

The tekkno is a good boat used to own and paddle one on rivers around 3/4. On a wave it will leave the others its much faster, flat water will go with practise they can be cartwheeled etc especially if you take out the foam seat place some foam spacers underneath it and replace. THis will raise your centre of gravity so the boat will feel slighty twitchier but will perform better, Mr clean ok havent seen one for years very dated not as fast on a wave but easier to paddle in a hole,

EZG good boat easier on flat water than both so either buy the tekno and build muscles or save up for a few more weeks and get the ezg! 8)

I paddled all summer long with the MR.Clean. It goes very well, but it tends a lot to pearl (dive into a wave with the front) and it's unforgivable in the big waves

I still own a Tekno and although it's not easy to throw around on the flat it can be done. It's an awesome boat for oacean surf and probably for bigger waves on the river too.

With 32\" inseam you'll have plenty of legroom (I'm 36\" inseam and fit in really comfortably. I had to take out the footrest though because it cannot go forward far enough. Nothing a bit of foam cannot solve ;) ).

My advice: go for the EZG. It is by far the best boat and you'll have a lot more fun with it. If you go for the Tekno you'll have a lot of fun too but might want to replace it sooner than you would replace the EZG.

ditto on the EZG...its the easiest boat to handle right now and you can still throw ends pretty easily with it. i have found that its the most forgiving in big water. so yeah...if you put the money into it...you wont be sorry
