I also am a beginning playboater. As of yesterday I got my first real ends on a double pump. I would advise really commiting to the strokes, and don't be afraid to roll a lot or you won't be able to get the angles on the bow and stern extreme enough. Also, follow the stroke with your eyes/head as it will help you rotate your torso in comparison to the boat.

hi i got my first clean ends on friday, i havent been paddling long but i have a riot orbit, which is not the best to learn in i dont think because it isnt too slicey, but a g-force is a great boat cos its slicey.

but to the technique, paddle forwards at a steady speed, then edge to the right if your right handed(vice versa if your left) and you want to edge quite a bit. the take a big pull stroke from the front of the boat, lean back and to the right so you bring the nose up out of the water and then a strong pushe stroke next to the boat while pumpuing your body forward.
you want to look in the direction you are going and keep your body twisting.

thats how to get on end, then im told to get teh third end you need to switch edges when on end, so instead of leaning forward and right you lean back and edge left.

i hope this helps

mike

I too have only just got my first clean end today actually and i second what has been said about commiting and really driving hard. I think the key is in the weight tranfer rather tha the strokes.

What do you mean by clean end?
Initiating a cartwheel in a hole without a paddle stroke, but then using paddle strokes to get consecutive ends

i presume your wanting to cartwheel or bow stall.

You best getting one of ken whitings books or dvd's these are the most helpfull for playboating that i've found. Perhaps practise bow windups these will give you a feel for being on your edge while trying to push either end up.

Doin clean flatwater cartwheels with out a paddle isnt all too hard if you have good edge control.
