I have demo'd the allstar once before,
really easy to throw around, the short length of the boat offsets the relatively high volume.

I've a Jackson AllStar and as I live in Brighton UK I get more than my share of flat water. The Jackson is very easy to kart wheel and I'm starting to nail stalls, however I do find it quite hard to nail bow stalls. As someone said, having the necessary skill helps.

If you are thinking of buying a boat only for flat water tricks, then check out the Dagger G Force. I demo'ed one about 6 months ago on flat water and loved it, however it is very small. They are also a lot cheaper than a Jackson.

I'm down in the South East of England as well so it's mostly flatwater for me with a few trips a year away to rivers with my club. I'm just thinking of getting my first playboat and was considering the Jackson Star series. Being 5' 11' and 190lbs so I guess I fit into the Super Star range but I just a bit concerned that a bigger volume boat like this will make learning difficult for a beginner given most of my paddling will be on the flat)

Any advice gratefully received!

John

I'm 5'11 and 83 kg, and the allstar seems to work for me. I thought about the superstar but tried the allstar (courtesy of WWTCC) and it seems fine. Still learning about flatwater tricks - as an 'old school' paddler its a good challenge - particulalry living in London where the WW is hard to find!

I'm 6 ft and somewhere around the 89 kilo / 195 lbs mark. I'm at the top end of the All Star's design.. however that makes it easier to throw around. The boat is fine for flat water tricks and lower grade rivers, but starts getting interesting when you take it to grade 4+ rivers.. the biggest problem I find on bigger water is punching across aggressive eddie lines while trying to avoid catching the back edge and staring at the sky as you try to punch through.. however grade 4+ is something of a novelty when you live in the South East.

On a side note I had been having problems bow stalling the All Star and was wondering if it was me or the boat.. surprise surprise.. it was me :) I realised something really obvious (in hind sight) at the weekend. When you go into a stall, stand on the footrests and all of a sudden I started to nail bow stalls.. now to get them bouncing for a loops. I think the problems I was having arose from practicing kart wheels as I had got into the habit of keeping a more neutral position in the boat to stop it from bouncing up and down when rotating.

Lastly on the London front, I spent a year there before moving to Brighton. I used to head over to the City Airport and play around in the Docks there..
