i just started kayaking a month ago, ive ran the hiawassee twice (class 1-2 river, if that). im more into river running than i am playboating, right now i paddle a not-so-comfortable wavesport big ez. im hoping to trade or sell and get a diesel but, anyway, you guys have any tips on river running? ive done light whiter water conoeing for about the past 10 years so i know the very basics, like what eddys look like and the basics in reading a rapid (hit the V where the waters the deepest and smoothest). i can fairy and roll, but not very well. im hoping in a year or two ill be ready to hit the ocoee, im already excited about it! thanks for any tips or advice!

I recomend finding a group of (begginer) friendly paddlers and join them, play around on the river, have fun and maby take a course on river running, white water rescue or rafting. In terms of instructional material I recomend the classic \"Kayak: The Animated Manual of Intermediate and Advanced Whitewater Technique\" (Paperback) by William Nealy it covers all the basics and is quite fun.

And if you want to remember one thing, remember to keep your posture on the water, leaning forward and keeping your arms in the square position, then you are in controll. And have fun.
