Hi all,

I would like to know if anyone knows how to make a Back rack for a creek boat? I.E turning a kayak into a back pack for long hikes to and from rivers?
I saw on the \"7 rivers expedition\" dvd some guys fashioned straps from foam \"Pool Noddles\".
Does anyone know how to do this or something like it:?:

Good lines and Big Air

Most of the home-made ones ive seen in photos/videos seem to involve the shoulder and waist straps from an old hiking pack tied to the boat with a couple of roof rack cam-buckle straps going around the boat and sometimes some through the end grab loops too. There usually seems to be some camping mat stuck in there for comfort. Theres a couple of places you can buy similar things but i cant remember where at the mo.

Ive rigged a simple system for my boat (inazone232) - take a 2.4m or similar stupidly large webbing/tape sling, thread it through the loops securing the backband twice to stop it slipping ( i guess this might work with those extra grab handles you get on creek boats) and clip the ends to the rear grab loop with a karabiner. This gives you a set of basic shoulder straps, probably not as stable or comfortable if youre going to be walking all day but the whole thing packs into a PFD pocket and can be used for other stuff too. There might be a way to add some camping mat or foam pipe lagging if you feel the need.
