Whitewater sunglasses 18 years 7 months ago #9241

Does anyone have any recommendations for sunglasses that are good to use on the river?

I have a set of old Oakley Scars that I strap down when I'm on the river. They do tend to fall off my face on occasion, but I have managed not to donate them to the river goddess (yet). I have ordered a set of the SeaSpecs to try out and I know that Oakley has a set of Water Jackets. Any other recommendations or comments?

Ive never tried these but Native makes a pear of sunglsses which come with a strap attachment. I usually jsut put on some chums, duct tape them to my glasses, and tighten it as much as possible. Works pretty well.

I have the Sea Specs listed on the store here and I find they fog up. I have used them on a canoe trip with some easy ww on it and they were great. When I dumped though they fogged up and it moved them down around my neck. My friends have also had this problem with the glasses they have used.

I have ordered a set, so I will see how they hold up. Fogging is a bit of an issue with any set of glasses I have used. Normally, I will either throw water on them or rapidly push/pull them from my face to get some air flow and defog them (old ski goggle trick). I may try using some anti-fog products (Cat Crap, Dive Gear anti-fog, etc.) or RainX (for windshields) if it is an issue.

Thanks for all of the advice.

If you can afford them go with the Oakley Water Jackets, they have some sort of anti fog coat on the lense and i can tell you it works.
Got a few buddies that use them on the Zambezi, they swear by them.

Good lines and big air

Fogging up is very much depending on the season and weather conditions. if it's a hot dry day and the water is warm and you're having an easy session, your sunglasses will stay clear no matter what.

On the other hand, if it's winter and you're sweating, i don't think any special coating will help....

Keep that in mind, preferably before buying any kayaking sunglasses...

That said, if you do decide to get some kayaking sunglasses, please support Playak by buying Seaspecs in the Playak Shop:

You're absolutely correct on the weather affecting fogging. I know that from skiing/snowboarding. My glasses really fog up during the morning because of the extreme temp difference. Once they adjust to the temperature, I have very little issues with fogging. I am more concerned with the glasses sliding off during a roll. If that happens, I deal with it (either push them on or get them out of my way until I can eddy out.

If you use the Seaspecs they will not move once on. A problem I have found is that the retention buckle gets in the way of my current helmet. No harm cause I am buying a new one before next season but something to check out.

The Sunset specs in the Sea Specs range, which are meant for cloudy days and low level light (or the dank European days of Winter), give you a \"sunshine\" view when you wear them. You see everything through a golden haze. You take them off. The sun is shining. And the day looks dull! You put them on and the weather looks kinda sunny. And no, I haven't been paid to write this. But looking through the lenses cheered me up.
